Ford Focus RS
It took a further six years to bring out another proper fast Ford but in 2002 the Focus RS announced it's arrival on to the scene.
The mark 1 did not perhaps have the impact of it's older siblings.
As with past Ford's it used a turbocharged two litre engine which produced 212bhp.
Unlike the fast Fords of the past it ran it's power through the front wheels meaning it suffered from torque steer....a lot, of torque steer.
Whilst the Mark I may not have been the best the Mark II reminded us all why fast Fords are so great, specifically the RS500.
It was the first time a fast Ford had used a 2.5 litre engine and it didn't half reap the benefits.
The turbocharged block in the RS500 produced a staggering 345bhp, that is close to cars which cost three times as much as the Ford, it's only 40 less than a Jaguar XK.
And somehow the wizards at Ford had figured out a way to get rid of most of that nasty torque steer stuff thanks to the new 'Revoknuckle' suspension system.
And no I don't quite understand it, but what I do understand is it means the Focus RS can go round corners......fast!
To top it off, a 0-60 time means that this fast Ford is unlikely to be forgotten any time soon.
