The tracks of Dirt 3 have a striking similarity to the rallying routes used in Dirt2; they combine tight corners with bumps and these are interchangeable regardless of the geography. So, Finland is not very different from Croatia and Aspen still looks like a snowy Baja. This has been a dampener although Dirt 3 uses different tracks from its predecessor.
However, the representation of the environment in the game cannot be faulted. With an abundance of trackside objects and easily discernible regional features like the verdant landscape of Kenya and pristine white cliffs of Colorado, the geographical depictions prove to be a feast for the eyes. The weather detailing remains the most significant addition to the game.
The representation of rain, snow and night are almost flawless with water droplets on the car and snow being thrown up around tight corners. While Dirt 3 allows racers to speeds through pouring rain and the pitch dark of the night, these environmental changes fail to impact the handling of the vehicle as much as they should.
Flashback remains a highly appreciated feature of the game that allows players to relive and redrive the last ten seconds of their time on the tracks. This certainly helps when you have fallen off a cliff and don't have the time to start anew.
The rallying tracks of the game take the player across the continents of Africa, Americas and Europe; however, given the innumerable disciplines tackled by the game, the number of tracks falls far behind expectations. This means that a player often rallies across the same track several times which breed familiarity and contempt.
The campaign tour has also seen a revamp and the player no longer languishes in his RV as the world passes by him. Instead, he assumes a more active position as he is hired by racing teams. The entire campaign is segregated into four seasons; each of these is further divided into four championships. The final event of Dirt 3 is mandatory to progress to the next level of the game
