Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  2. Engine Oils 5w30 10w40 - Does It Really Matter?

I get your drift but what he is trying to prove is that the folks who say putting the wrong oil in is akin to putting diesel in a petrol car. It came about because apparently some garages just fling in any old oil without actually checking the engine requirements. I had a pal who was an apprentice at quikfit and he said that was the tip of the iceberg on the kinda things they do to save money and increase profits and I have actually experienced it on a full service when they didnt even replace the engine oil - some of us know how to use the tippex fraud technique and the stuff i recorded them saying - my advice - get a usb voice recorder with a 64gb memory card and leave it running in a hidden place in your engine and you will hear what car mechanics really say when you are getting an MOT - Utterly disgraceful - I am going to put it up on youtube !
  3. Mk6 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 TDCI Induction kit

Induction kits dont make any difference to engine performance they just make a horrendous noise - Are you a boy racer? Indeed some induction kits with oiled surfaces can actually damage your engine according to the experts Ericthecarguy and ScottyKilmer! Check youtube there are a few videos on it - I was thinking of one for my old Ford but changed my mind when I read that you can cause your engine problems!
  4. Clutch gone at 52,000 ?

when a clutch 'wears out' it will slip. This does not make it hard to get into gear. I would say what happened here is not usual wearing out but premature failure of a part that would normally last a lot longer. Exactly which part I do not know but I assume it was the concentric hydraulic release bearing/slave cylinder
  5. Its informally known as the MK 7.5.
  6. Escort MkIV indicator fuse blows

Can anyone help? My 1991 MkIV Escort blows fuse no 13, but not immediately. The flasher unit randomly clicks and then finally stops altogether, and the oil warning light goes on, even though engine running fine. I have changed both steering column switches and flasher unit - no change. Maybe direct short in wiring to reversing switch and lights, also supplied by same fuse ? but Where does the loom go? Does anyone know? Many thanks.
  7. is a year long enough? how many miles?. How do we know if it will wear out the engine or the turbo 30k miles earlier than it would have done with the correct oil. We might not know for 10years. And even then we would not really know as there are not two identical cars testing the different oils simultaneously doing the same journey and being started in the same cold places early mornings in winter etc and if one did fail earlier it might have been due to lower standard of manufactured parts in the engine and not the oil. I don't think his test can posssibly be regarded as proof. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, if I have a decent car I am not going to chance it. When I was younger I had cars that were worth £250 and needed the oil topping up frequently. On those cars I would just use the cheapest oil as not much to lose if it did make a difference.
  8. 2013 1.0l Ecoboost engine rust. Problem?

Wow i just signed up and saw this. Is this a problem with Fiesta mk 7 2014 1.2 or just the MK6? Is it just the ST models with the turbo?
  9. Full Light Upgrade from CEUK.

@Loftie12 I’ve had them in for about 2/3 weeks
  10. Dash cam advice!

I have a Yi 1080p60 Dashcam for the front, and it's really nice. The quality is excellent, really clear even at night. Unfortunately it's silver so it's not inconspicuous, but it's not an eyesore either. I bought a suction pad for it instead of the sticky mount as I didn't want something permanently attached. The screen sticks out maybe 5mm below the rearview mirror the way I've put it in, so it's barely a distraction. Here's a clip at night (it looks better straight from the camera, YouTube does some compression on it:
  11. I have had this discussion with a few friends who agree that it doesnt matter a jot in real life what oil you put in your car. The only time it would matter is in countries that are very cold apparently. Our pal tells us it is just a gimmick by the petrol companies to increase their profits. We had quite a "discussion" over a few beers and things got a bit serious. To demonstrate this I had a £100 bet with our pal Frank who is incidentally a 30 years Ford mechanic so he drained and filled up his Fiesta MK7 1.2 Ecoboost with 10W40 when it should be 5W30 I believe and he has been driving it for over a year now with no problems so it looks like we lost the bet? What are your experiences and thoughts on this - Am I really wrong and do I owe him £100? From looking on the internet it does seem like he is right!

  13. clutch slip

So long as you keep the reservoir topped up and don't allow air down into the ABS unit you will be fine
  14. Mk8 Delivery Delays?

Ps. You can always try something like Carwow and see what figures are being banded around before approaching a dealership.
  15. Mk8 Delivery Delays?

Yes, look around the Dealerships, then as we did, there is haggling and negotiating on the final price. We did the same for my 17 plate and the Mrs "future", when it is delivered St line X and we feel it worked out very nicely for us. Until you go to the Dealership, sit down with them, talk deposits or trade ins and haggle with prices then you will never know what they are actually offering. I have never found published "deals" or "discounts" making up a great deal until you are face to face with a salesman / lady.
  16. Clutch gone at 52,000 ?

I'll try and get him down to 500, what's involved in a full service?
  17. 2013 1.0l Ecoboost engine rust. Problem?

Guess what? Evans Halshaw Blackburn say that isn’t a warranty issue. I have raised the issue with Ford UK.
  18. Mk8 Delivery Delays?

Please can you point me towards these deals? All I can find is ~1500 dealer discount plus the scrappage scheme.
  19. Flash Code 16 - No crank.

Thanks Peter, will update shortly. Are you not getting bored of me now ? ;-)
  20. Flash Code 16 - No crank.

Yes. Whether the fuel pump circuit is used to provide an "ignition on" power feed to the PCM, and if so, on what pin. Or if not the fuel pump circuit, is there an "ignition on" feed from anywhere else. That is the missing part for me. Also where that R11 coil ground pin (4) actually goes. (The PCM needs to know when the ignition is turned on, and with both feeds located so far being always on, that is missing.)
  21. Flash Code 16 - No crank.

About to ring Ford Tech again and will ask, good thing is they log all calls and details against the reg so they know the detail of the last call. Will update soon, but is there anything you would like me to ask on your behalf? ;-)
  22. Flash Code 16 - No crank.

Look for PCM or engine control, or similar. And for you engine variant under that heading. I think your engine may be a Sigma type, if that appears. Ian knows a lot more about Etis than me, I find it a scary place! Though when I last looked, there is a 50 euro minimum fee to access wiring diagrams. It may be different where you are, though.
  23. clutch slip

not sure if i have abs but would it be a problem beleeding the brakes if i do
  24. Electric

Hi can anyone help? I have a 2013 ford mondeo, when I open drivers side door with the ignition on but with the engine off i blow the door fuse 90% of the time all the electronics go off in the door however, if I open door with engine running it blows the mobilized fuse. I thought must be bare wire in door loom so I've replaced the loom and its still happening. Thanks Richie.
  25. Hi there, I am currently looking for an induction kit for my Mk6 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 TDCI and am having no luck all I could find were better panel filters. Anyone know where I might find one?
  26. 2014 zetec s td.....noise

Just checked the paperwork. The 37.5k mile (?) service was carried out at 23k miles last may, so its only done under 5k miles since then!
  27. morning all, have a 2006 ka a wire on the alternator had corroded away and the battery went flat! wire repaired and battery fully charged that's now all ok, BUT now have no dip or main beam. have checked for power to headlight connectors but no power! have checked switch/relays and fuses which are all ok with 12v, so it seems to be from the fuse box to the lights them selfs?
