Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  2. Finally Got My Focus!

Hi All, Been a Ford lover since a young age and had my fair share of Fords but have never managed to own a Focus, as have liked it since it was released. Had a few opportunities too but the right one had never come up until a couple of months ago. After a lot of hard work and a promotion at work I was finally in a position to get a new (used) car. I had been driving a 53 plate Alfa 156 which was slowly dying. Trawling Autotrade I came across what seemed the perfect Focus for me at the right price, a 12 plate Focus Titanium 1.0 Ecoboost (125) in Panther Black and after driving it fell in love with it and it is now mine. 1 week later was off on a holiday with friends to Wales, a 280 mile trip each way, I was loving the comfort of the interior and joy of the engine along with the much better mpg! Been lurking around here for the last month or so and have got some great ideas of what issues I could be facing and how I can keep an eye on things. Also got a fair few idea on some more subtle mods. Cheers, Mike
  3. Focus 2009 1.6 timing belt - threadlock bolts?

No, two 45s or whatever will be fine, as long as it ends up in the right place.
  4. Sat Nav Problems

My focus ecoboost(2017) has the latest ford sat nav system but as far as I am concerned it is a complete waste of money. There is no way in settings to select UNPAVED ROADS, this may be ok in London or Frankfurt but when touring Spain is positively dangerous. On one occasion it took us along 3 miles of service vehicles only then onto a steeply inclined gravel track with water running across the bottom. Some paved roads which I am assured had been around for more than 30 years were not on the maps but multiple dirt tracks were!! Anybody had similar problems Malcolm
  5. I’m pretty sure anything above 6000k is not road legal, so Jonro is right to recommend mid 5k’s they are crisp pure white and look great.
  6. Hi all, I’m really no expert, so I’m here in the hope that someone else might be. My brother has taken a couple of years to restore an Escort, which he had no intention of selling, it is his pride and joy, however, needs be and all of that. He has asked me to see if there would be any interest here in the UK, he wants it to go to a good Home. Specs are: Ford escort 1979 mk1 2 door 1800 Ford zetec engine twin Webber side draughts full dry sump oil system. Fully adjustable Leda suspension. 5 spd Toyota gearbox Locked rear diff 13” x8j wheels I’m based in London and would arrange the import etc from South Africa. Comments on expected value and any offers more than welcome. Please excuse me if I’ve posted in the wrong place, I’m a total newby. kind regards, Darryn

  8. Focus 2009 1.6 timing belt - threadlock bolts?

Hi, is it necessary to execute the 90° turn in one continuous move? i don't have enough clearance and i'm not sure i can raise the car enough with what i've got
  9. help focus driving me up the wall

Reading a few other posts on here, it seems the focus is sensitive to battery / alternator faults. As we’re heading towards winter, and you’ve had alternator faults show up, that’s where I’d start looking.
  10. I don’t necessarily share the same opinion when it comes to light temp. I’ve had several different HID systems with different temperature bulbs. I found that about 5300K is the closest to OEM and 8000K is well on the way to being purple. Personally I’d always stay below 6000K, anything higher is pretty blue and it loses a lot of useable light. As the driver you will see a blue tinge to road signs etc with 6000K and head on there will be a noticeable blue to the light, as a driver with 5300K (or thereabouts) it should be almost pure white. Head on will look bright white but as the Car dips up and down on the road surface it will gleam blue like an Audi etc. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Number Plates Years

A Q plate is to recognise that the vehicle is an amalgamation of parts from other vehicles to the extent that it's original identity is not clear. A standard or personalised plate are not permitted, it must be a Q plate only. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  13. Things I Don't Like

TV I don't think there is a reason, but I know radio have strict rules on how much music they can play and how much has to be spoken - maybe they've got to up their quota or something!

  19. Things I Don't Like

Just drove home around 5pm today and ran into three issues. One I gave way to a car coming out a side road on the left then all of a sudden the car behind them kind of overtook them to turn right and it looked like they were so close to hitting me when I was passing. Second was on a side road and moved to the left hand side to let several cars way. One of the cars gave me way and just when I was going to move off a car was coming from behind me and overtook me. This car also was reversing out their drive way on that same road and stopped to let me pass. Lastly saw the car I might get next (golf GT sport) but sadly the driver was driving like a knob. He went in the left lane which is used to go left but went straight. Was also doing about 40 - 50mph on a 30 road. He tried cutting through traffic again on a two lane road where the right lane would end up to turn right into a bus station and the left lane to go straight. Near the traffic lights there was a queue of cars to go straight (left lane) so he decided to save time by going into the right lane and cut through to go straight. When the lights went green I saw he was stuck behind a car which was indicating right whilst he was trying to indicate left 😂. Please don't drive like a knob and cut in front of people. Also be careful when driving in the dark / evenings as from today's examples show people tend to make more mistakes.
  20. Floor mats

I have some carpet mats which I've been told were off an ST. If your worried about liquids soaking into the carpets try gtechniq smart fabric. It makes the liquid bead over the fabric. Will also try and get pics
  21. Things I Don't Like

Sadly, this total lack of any imagination, sentiment, human emotion or basic decency seems to be the in thing. Talking over the end of films & programmes on TV, advertising some banal and irrelevant next programme, that irritates the hell out of me. Completely ruins the memory of any decent thing. They just say, "well many viewers / listeners like it!" BS
  22. Fuel filter help

Can anyone help? I've been having some trouble figuring this one out lol @iantt tricky one to get off with a screwdriver through it Its an Isuzu fuel filter.. stupidly put oil filter first time round so any eagle eyed members will notice I've changed it lol.
  23. Well with me my dad does mechanic work as a hobby so he knows how to do stuff like this. I don't know about DRL. Could find a wire going to the lights and wire the rings to it or you can wire it to a fuse which supplies power when ignition has turned on. I don't really know about drl so don't take my opinion.
  24. Number Plates Years

Not sure what the deal with the 'Q' reg vehicles is!
  25. help focus driving me up the wall

Maybe a dodgy sensor or something along those lines? Just a suggestion if all is actually fine with the engine. Something could be sending false information. I'm no expert obviously, I have my own issues with my car lol.
  26. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor

I put it down to the working range of the steering wheel angle sensor - probably just the accuracy of it. The click/whirr is a standard thing when turning and hitting a bump by the sounds of things. Never investigated it as system otherwise appears to work fine.
  27. I'm planning to build in the remote control into the car. Think it's gonna be a nice project. Have a transponder, gonna strip it and mount the print between roof and cover, as close as possible to the screen. Push button.....see pic ( between center console and floor console
  28. Blower settings

I have noticed that the a/c only works (light comes on switch) on setting 1, 2 and 3 but goes off on setting 4. Could it be a/c related? I'm really hoping it's something quick and easy, I mean how can something work fine when you get out of the car and then not work when you get back in 10 minutes later?
