bt_cav
Hey All, Still got my engine management light shining at me due to my catalyic convertor not working properly, changed the front lambda sensor and had the codes cleared (light put out) but no change motorway driving (80 miles) at least 5 days a week but still it glows with contempt. I have been thinking about unbolting the cat and seeing if there is any loose bits and emptying them out to see if would make any difference. The reason the cat is nackered in the first place is the coil packed in causing a misfire before I rolled to a stop. It did pass the mot (had the light put out before the test) What I'd like to know is dose the cat have nuts & bolts or is has it got captive bolts that could snap and cause me more bother than its worth? quite happy to snap through bolts and replace them if this is the case. Focus 1.6, 04 (Mk1) Thanks in advance all

Thanks in advance all the fact it passsed the mot would suggest the cat is fine the emissions would have been too high with the cat not working and so would have failed if there were any loose bits you would hear them rattling with the car running you should get low idling loss of power at low anf high revs
stef123
have you checked out the lambda after the cat? this is only really to check the cat is working and not for emissions so this could be your problem. has the car been connected to diagnostics? knowing what the code is would be a great place to start
bt_cav
Hi Folks, Just wanted to update this. I got the error code Cant remember the exact code just now but it said the cat was not working or words to that effect will confirm soon. However Since I replaced the fuel filter on (Tuesday 5th April) and covered a couple of hundred miles through the various speed ranges and been through a cat test, the engine management light has stayed off. (I canceled the codes befoer I drove a couple of miles to MOT then replaced the filter after the MOT) So it might be worth changing the fuel filter and maybe a drop of injector cleaner wouldnt hurt befoer splashing out on Lambda Sensors and a Catalyic Convertor If your having the same problem :)
