Run Back

Featured Replies

Hi all. I am new on here. I recently bought a 1.8turbo diesel escort van. It seems to have a starting problem cold or hot. I have checked the heater plugs and they are fine. I have changed the fuel cellanoid. I think diesel is running back from the pump because if I hand prime the pump, the van starts first time. I have changed the lift pump, and the problem is still there. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do next?

it could be the non return valve in the filter body playing up,or an igress of air allowing the fuel to seap back.

Thanks... I am thinking of putting a non return valve between the fuel pump and the primer as an easy way to solve the problem. Do you think it would work?

Are there any signs of weeping from any of the joins around the injectors? Or any signs of spannering on the nuts on the injectors as someone may have removed 1 for whatever reason and either not used a new seal (copper washer?) or not tightened the nuts enough BUT don't strip anything.

I would get a secondhand filter body 1st because the original setup will be best. Also if the valve is too small it could cause a restriction and so too much pressure at the fuel pump, I have seen an engine fill with diesel because of a crushed fuel pipe which caused the pressure to build up(don't know if Fords use the same type of pump as it was on a John Deere tractor)
