Front End Noise

Featured Replies

hey guys+gals....I'm doing up a 89 escort xr3.i cabrolet for the missus...when we first got it,it had a terrable noise in the front end..If you went round a rh corner under load..it makes a racket..like the wheel its self is scrubbing out on the guard????so we had a look+relised that a cv joint had blown out...so we got a nu set of cv's rebuilt..+ whilst that was happenning,I got new wheel bearings, had the struts"reconditoined"discs reground..

this took over 5 weeks as I had to get parts from nz+uk...Im in aust...no parts available here,,+not much help...so we put it all back together +took it for a run...the !Removed! noise is still there...cant see where or how its scrapping???the only thing I can see that also needs to be done is the rubbers in the anti roll bar/stabiliser bar...they are not in good cond...would this be enough to screw up the front end...asking as a last resort before I take it to a mechanic...and watch him scratch his head... also need a site to obtain these

..thanks for any help....dave............

I would say wheel bearings, but you've changed them... Let me think... The anti-roll bar shouldn't make that noise. It just makes a clunk if it's worn out over bumps. What is maybe happening is when the car rolls going round a corner the wheel hits a poorly fitted mud flap ? Or the suspension is gone and it is leaning so much it is scraping the tyre against the inner fender ? That could be because of the worn Anti-Roll-Bar, if it is the leaning that is causing it. Hope you get her fixed soon!

Has it got the correct suspension units fitted, because you say parts are hard to get so someone may have fitted incorrect units, shorter? And also are the wheels/tyres the standard size as oversize ones could cause the rubbing noise?

so my mate figured it out....its the sway bar hitting the air comppressor pulley for air con

as the car is under load on drivers side....we were thinking that perhaps somewhere that the sway bar had been taken off + put on the wrong way around so we tryed that+its worse....

.......hmmm....may just take a scollop of metal out so it misses....but there must be a reason it has done this.....???thanks for all input.........dave...........

....engine mounts are ok..... :D
