1990 Mk4 Escort

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls,

It was my 18th last week and i decided to buy an old school Escort! The car has been lowered and is like a go kart and i realy would like it to be slightly higher as i am currently scraping on speed bumps. How much for new springs and to have them fitted?

My lights also work like a mobile disco, they do what they like! When indicating right it can either stick or the rear tail light flashes. Is this need for a relay or do the ground connections need cleaning?

There is a lot of slack in the gearbox, should i get a new one of can this be fixed?

Finally question, there is rattling coming from the engine does anyone have any ideas of how to get rid of it or what it is likely to be?

Thanks for reading and any replies will be much appreciated, Dods

the slack gearbox is a common thing rerly mines like it and all the others i have been in are its not rearly a problem just general wear and tear and the rattling will be the lifters if its the 1.6 cvh its a 20min job take the rocker cover of and the rockers and they should just pull out and slot new ones in but if its the 1.6 or 1.8 zetec there abit harder as u have to take the cams out and this meens timing it back up if its the 8v cvh i think the lifters are about 60 - 70 quid but there not rearly a problem more of an anoyance but check the oil if its abit low top it up to the max line it might cure it but chances are it wont

right the rear lights have the same problem i have a leak above the cluster and this make the plug on the back of it (should be black) insides go abit rusty unplug it and get a smeel bit of 120 grit sandpaper or simalar and clean it up the sticking could just be a realay

the slack gearbox i know that around 120k the gearbox tend to expire.... mine went a 62k hahah (this lead to new diff driveshaft wheel bearings track rod ends from the vibration) anyway giveaway sign is when your cruise at about 60 and take your foot off the throttle the speedo wobbles up n down youll have maybe 3 months of carful driving left then the speedo will only work when acclerating about month left then it stops working get it fixed i didnt i smelt gearbox oil heard a bang and saw lots of white smoke while overtaking some !Removed! in a spanking new audi showered the c**t in small bits of metal hahahaha

if its a 1.1 or 1.3 its likly to be a pushrod or kent xflow engine these are generally very rattley tickly and clicky dont be put of by this though there smashing engines my 5 door 1.3 eats saxos vtrs hahhahahah

now my finger hurt...
