jeebowhite
Take a look at the top thread in the Ford Focus Forums... thats the dash trick. Basically (this will reset your odometer) Switch ignition off, press and hold the reset button on button then turn the key to start engine. leave the button pressed in then the trip computer will go into self test mode. Review the thread here for more info

Review the thread here for more info hi jeebowhite, thanks for your reply....sounds simple enough, the trouble is, as my car is a 97 escort, it has no digital readouts anywhere on the dashboard. the odometer is the simpler "push-button" sort, one pushes the button in,and it reels the numbers round to zero again (i hope i have explained that clearly enough).the information only covers the digital aspect, would it work for my earlier version?. obviously,i dont want to call my mechanic if i can fix it myself. cheers jeebowhite col
jeebowhite
Should have really read that! - if you have the OBDII port (i know they werent standard around then) so you might be able to use an OBDII scanner, could well be a wiring issue, or faulty sensor, but its difficult to say with little diagnostics and being unable to see the car! It could even be a fault that has developed on the dial itself, from my understanding there is an electric reel that when heated the metal expands, and so the needle moves, so if their isnt a full connection, then it wont expand all the way!
