Focus 1.8Tdci Fuel/engine Problem

Hi Guys new to this forum and not very mechanically minded..I have a Jan 2008 Ford Focus 1.8TDCi. No problems with it until now. No.1 fuel injector seal was leaking so took it in to a diesel fuel injector specialist as recommended and it was fixed (new seal). Since then between 1800 and 2300 rpm I get a juddering when accelerating. It seems to ease when below or above that. Took it back and apparently all the injectors are ok (tested individually on Siemens machine) but too much fuel appears to be going through No.3 injector. Took it to a Ford Garage as it was suggested that the PMC needed resetting or I think that was what they called it. Anyhow done and am told no faults showing, but problem is still there. Everyone has been quite helpful but no one seems to know what is causing it. Ford now say they will have to get the car in for in depth testing and I am concerned about potential labour charges.

So my question to you all is simply has anyone heard of this before, or know what might be causing it

On the basis the car is just out of its three year warranty, theres not too much you can do, other than try and get the dealer to take it for a test drive, if you can suggest the issue was there before the expiry of the warranty, then it *may* get you somewhere, reducled labour if nothing else.

Had exactly the same problem myself. I took my 08 ford focus 1.8L tdci to the local garage as there was a smell of fumes coming from the air conditioning when the car was stationary. The garage said it was a loose fuel injector and replaced the seal. When I picked it up from them the car would vibrate and judder only when accelerating in 4th and 5th gear. I took it back to the same garage and they said it was the clutch and quoted me 1500 euro.

I decided to bring it to the Ford dealer then and they changed the fuel filter as no errors came up on the diagnostic machine, but this did not fix the problem. They then thought it was the Flywheel so they had to strip the car to investigate (300 euro quote for labour). Flywheel looked fine, but they said that they thought they would need to change the Flywheel as it was stopping intermittently ( quoted me 1,500 euro for the whole job). They changed my clutch and Flywheel but surprise, surprise this did not work.

They then had to keep the car for a further week, conducted more diagnostic tests ( no errors appeared). They eventually figured it was fuel injector number 3 and replaced this and the car has been going fine since. We settled on a price of 1,000 euros, for a new flywheel and clutch and a new injector and a big hole in my bank account.

Never understood where they pull these rediculous prices for clutch changes...Changed a clutch and flywheel on a Merc Sprinter the other day,took a few hours only cost £150 for the part..
