Amongst other minor problems this seems to be the most annoying :@ When I am driving at speed, around 50 mph +, this irritating noise begins to come from the driver side door, as though a window is open. I've checked all the windows and I've checked the seals. To my knowledge, these seem all intact with no obvious rips or disconnections. I was sitting in the back seat of the car on one journey and I discovered there was actually a breeze/draft of some sort coming in through what seemed to be the rear window (it is a 3 door so I can't actually check for any seals on the rear window). I've taken it to a garage and they've said tape up the door and rear window with insulation tape and drive around and remove the tape piece by piece until the sound returns. I find this will be a time consuming and possibly pointless process, especially being on the driver side...and me being 6 ft 3 its gonna be a bit of a struggle to get into the drivers seat through the passenger side. Another Ford specialist garage I went to today was going to charge me £30 just for diagnostics which I'm not prepared to pay until I know its a problem worth fixing. Kapz K Posted June 27, 2011 Author Share Posted June 27, 2011 The foam seal...you have jogged my memory. I do remember the grey foam seal was slightly hanging off. Maybe the upper 5-6mm is not stuck on anymore. Whereas the passenger side is firmly attached. About removing the door seal. Still learning about cars, only just started off (this is my first car), do you mind maybe showing me exactly which part you are talking about. I will try sticking the foam seal back up. H3lly Posted June 27, 2011 Share Posted June 27, 2011 It could be the door rubber that's perished a bit allowing road and wind noise into the car. Check each door rubber if it's out of shape. Are we talking about the grey piece of sponge/foam that is glued to the inner side of the door between the door and wing mirror, or actually upon removing the actual wing mirror and triangular shaped plastic bezel (upon which the remote control for the mirror is situated) there is another foam that is not visible until after opening the wing mirror? Kapz K Posted June 29, 2011 Author Share Posted June 29, 2011 there should be a foam seal under the wing mirror baseplate as well as foam at the back of the door card ide try the wing mirror and door card first before considering anything else Hi, I opened up the wing mirror today and noticed two things upon comparing it to the mirror on the other side. 1 - The square piece of foam behind the triangle bezel on the interior was missing (this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-FORD-FIESTA-EXTERIOR-WING-MIRROR-FOAM-PAD-/290530048779?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a4f0bb0b) 2 - Upon removing the mirror itself on the exterior, the wing mirror baseplate foam was all tacky and half torn It looks like somebody has replaced the mirror and placed no foam back. I tore off the battered foam that was behind the baseplate. Now my question is can I just place clear silicon around the border of the baseplate and firmly attach it on and not have to worry about placing foam there as well, and would I need to place foam inside the triangular plastic bezel on the interior as that is missing.
