dashboard56
Hi. I've got a 2002 mondeo tdci with 152k on the clock. the starter has suddenly decided to let me down, spinning but not starting the engine most times, will start if i push or roll the car back in gear then lift the clutch but don't know how long this will last and a pain on flat or potholed roads.. the clutch has also suddenly become noisy and vibrates a bit when depressed and in gear, I.E. when waiting to move off at lights or junctions, is this related? sounds like its gonna be expensive? :(
mintalkin
with the clutch area noise and vibrations it sounds like the duel mass flywheel could be failing, when they start to fail they fill the starter motor with iron filings and the starter fails, if you can remove the starter motor and check for swarf. dashboard56
thanks for that, I called in at a garage that do a lot of taxi work yesterday and he confirmed what you have said. Its on the ramp at the moment in another garage who quoted me £200 less to do the same work. having a clutch, flywheel and starter motor fitted. expensive job just like the injectors i had about a year ago.. hey ho its a ford at the end of the day.
