Ford Capri

Featured Replies

So, it seems the Capri has reached 'Classic status', since I was looking at one for a weekend project.. and for an average '84 2.8, your looking at a good couple of grand :o

Still tempted mind :D

Ive just bought a Ford Capri. Mere hours ago. I wasnt planning on it but i saw the advert for it on the cheap and in the end couldnt pass it up.

Its a 1983 1.6 Laser model in black. To be honest its not in the best of conditions, but seeing as i like a project it'll be perfect for me.

Im going to get it new front wings, the valances are rusted too, and some other bits and pieces.

Then im really tempted to have a new paint job, bright red with a Starsky-ish white stripe down both sides lol. Maybe put some Alley Cats on it aswell.

Hey its as close to the Ford Torino as im going to find for the mere £500 i paid for the bag of bolts haha.

post some piccies when your finished.. love those classics!

Why does evryone wnat the 2.8? The old 3.0s was a much better car and easier to work on. No confusing electronics.

But for the most balanced of all of them, it would have to be the Mk 3, 2.0s. Powerful, economical(especially with the 5 speed box) and so good looking if it was black!

I have had 4 capris and still own one now a MK1 which I have owned for more than 20 years ,rust is its enemy

loved mk1 and 2's... watching TV series of minder you get to see all the classics gone by

One thing I have moticed recently. One my Capri, (as earleir described, 2.0s Five Speed manual), the gear ratiio in fifth is quite high. example, 70mph in fifth uses about 2,400 rpm.

On my recently acquired Fiesta Fusion, doing the same speed in fifth gives and rpm of about 3,100.

My late wife had a Sierra Sapphire for a while, with the same gearbox as the Capri, and that was the same as the Capri at 70mph in 5th.

Bear in mind the need these days for more mpg, makes you wonder why ford has a different ration on the geras in the fiesta then the old Capri. Unless of course, they want us to have cars that can't get even better mpg? maybe it's a conspiracy with the oil companies?

hi mate

Perhaps the cars being RWD and the fiesta being FWD and probably a smaller engine too affects it.
