bottom end problem

hi i posted yesterday about rattling noise from engine ,it seems the engine has been burning oil and i have been told the bottom end is the problem , is there any way of fixing what is damaged or is it the engine knackered ?? as i have not got the cash to fix it , ive heard slick 50 will get rid of the rattle temporarily is this true ?? or has anyone got any ideas for me ,also if it does need engine , i will be selling for £850 as my car is immaculate if anybody can fix it .. thanks again people ....Andy
