Poor starting mondeo

Featured Replies

Happy Easter everyone!

Mine would be happier if I new the answer as to why my Mondeo is dodgy getting started. It fires, then hovers around 500 revs for 10 - 30 seconds, before suddenly jumping to 800 revs and allowing me to drive away.

Tends to do this from warm. Cold starting is fine.

Any ideas please??

Thanks.

I love reading this Forum - some great ideas for when my Mondy goes wrong! But in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas on my starting problem? I should add that this has been accompanied by a reduction in mpg, starting at around the same time. Beats me!

it could be many things from an injector leaking back fuel so the fuel rail needs to build up pressure,to the car requiring a pcm update without inspection its hard to tell.

Thanks Mintalkin. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a pcm update?

it is a software update for the ecu, this has to be done by the dealer and is usually around £80. had a couple of mondys with the same problem as yours and were cured by the update but it might be something else causing the starting problem.

The diagnosis, (having had a full check by a diesel specialist with full diagnostic equipment) is a faulty fuel pump - but, they are not 100% sure - so they are suggesting a £500 - 600 bill to maybe cure the problem. I really have no idea what to do for the best on this one, but seesm a bit steep for something uncertain.

is there another garage you can get a second opion from ? £500 is a lot to spend if it does not cure the fault.
