Question for new Fiesta owners

I've just realised that there doesn't seem to be a temperature gauge on the new Fiesta. Is there one built in to the digital display bit? or is there no temperature gauge at all?

Theres a light that comes on if the temperature gets too high so I would assume theres one in the digital hack part of the dash.

The new fiesta has a temp gauge for inside the car on the temp panel, and one for outside temp on the speedo dash board, but always seem to find that a few degrees out.

As SY99 said there's no gauge. You just get a warning light if things get hot. It is becoming more usual on smaller cars for no temp gauge. The current Micra has never had one either - just speed, fuel and revs like the Fiesta.

Going back 20 years or so, most cars in the Fiesta bracket didn't even have tachometers (rev counters).

Cheers guys, just wondering as my 1998 Fiesta has an engine temp gauge, so i was imagining that there must be one on the new fiesta, even if its in the digital part. seems like there isnt. Dont suppose its a great loss, just a useful bit of kit to have. I've never really trusted dashboard lights, as you never really know whats the deal untill they come on, and thats if they come on at all.

Thanks everyone :)

I think its a backward step that there is no guage. If the car is running too cold due to a stuck thermostat, then you will never know. If it is running slightly hot then seeing a needle move passed the normal setting would alert you before the warning light comes on. I will try and figure a way of reading the water temperature when I get my car.

There must be a way since many test operatons have to be done with the engine at normal operating temperature.

Thoroughly agree with you shabazmo. I like to have a good idea of what is going on under the bonnet, not saying there should be old style volt meters and pressure gauges. But the coolant temp is really important for so many reasons...

  • 3 months later...

Recycling this old topic, I was in my car yesterday doing an 8 mile trip which took 1 hr 30 mins!

Anyhow while sitting in the traffic and watching the rain pelting down, the temperature which so far as I know is registering the outside temp of the car (yes?) went up to 43 degrees! Now it was 7.45pm. Raining hard outside, airconditioning on low. I don't think the temp was 43 degrees. As soon as I started moving at a reasonable speed, the temp went down to about 17/18 which was more realisitic. So what temp was it registering? Was it the engine temp?

I think it was really outside temp, don`t know now where exactly is the diode that is measuring temperature, but when it is near radiator or under the bonnet without a lot of fresh air it could measure higher temperature, when you moved the fresh air was bowing over the diode and it was showing +- right outside temp ;)

You can get a whole bunch of engine temperatures (and other data) by unlocking the dash. It's a pain to do every trip, but if you had a specific interest in the data for one or two trips (to test something maybe) then it's handy.

While starting the engine, hold down the 'mileage reset' button on the rev counter and keep it pressed for 10 seconds. The dash will go into test mode - advance the tests with the button until you get to the temperatures section (google 'ford dash unlock' for a complete list of all the data fields) and leave it there. Go for a drive and watch the constantly updated figures!

This also works on other Fords, Focus and Mondeo being two others I've tried. Hope that helps.

Chris, this is very interesting information. Where on earth did you learn about holding the ‘mileage reset’ to get this display.

Are there any other shortcut techniques in the Fiesta to discover?

Thanks again

Here's the full list:

1.Shows a Gauge Sweep

2. Shows all ACL on the LCD (LCD TEST)

3. Turns on all the annunciators on the dash (BULB TEST)

4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level (FirmWare Revision)

5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level

6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) ---------------------> THIS IS VERY, VERY, VERY HANDY!

7. Digital Speedometer - mph

8. Digital Speedometer - kph

9. N/A

10. Digital tachometer

11.Fuel volume

12. Engine coolant temperature

13. battery voltage

14. ABS/TRACS Error Code

15. Electronic brake distribution (EBD) failure

16. Illumination

17. Crank Sense

Actually, I think there are more than just 17 tests on certain revisions of the NewFiesta, so I wouldn't take the above as 100% gospel. The engine temperature is pretty easy to work out though, just look for the value which increases with time and decreases when the cooling fan comes on!

As for other 'short-cuts' - I'd put a tenner on there being more. My biggest disapointment to date is not knowing / being able to find the one that controls anti-hijack central locking! :(

Have fun!

Hello TurboZutek

(still waiting delivery)

I am totally interested in this availability of running diagnosis.

Do you happen to recall what average temperature the engine coolant was running at when you did a test drive?

Being a full time dummy I have no idea what the terms ‘hexadecimal value for ROM level (FirmWare Revision)’ or ‘Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level’.

Any help in this direction?

Keep up the good work!

hexadecimal for ROM is the version of software installed to your car ,

for example windows mobile has 6.0, 6.1, 6.5 depending on the version you use and your equipment can handle.

Hexi decimal does indicate 16 decimal spaces.

this site may help further in dechiphering these codes.

Yes indeed! On my 1.4 TDCi, running normally - part m/way, part town roads I'm getting 79 - 82'c nominally. Sat in traffic for a while i'd expect to see a bit more, until the fan kicks in anyways.

(Top Tip - The engine cooling fan will cut in sooner [at a lower temp] when the AC is running)

If I get time in the next few days, I'll try and chuck up a YOUTUBE video showing how to get the modes and what they mean.

  • 2 weeks later...
Handy info! Typically googling it comes up with tonnes of people selling it on sites including ebay!

Googling 'ford dash unlock' comes up with an eBay link to some guy giving away this info for free near the top of the list. There's more info on there including the Anti Hijack feature someone was asking about. Here's the guide in full:

I used to sell this information on eBay but i feel its about time it was free, this guide will tell you how to unlock all features on a ford with a digital dashboard. If you find this guide helpful then please vote.Thanks

Anti Hijack Feature

1. Turn on ignition until the dash lights come on but don't start engine!

2. Lock the door using the lever on the door handle and then unlock 3 Times

3. Turn off ignition

4. Repeat 2 but with ignition OFF

5. Turn on ignition - should hear a beep

6. Lock door again as in 2 BUT ONLY ONCE - final beep should be heard

7. Done!

Doors should now lock at around 5mph. including reverse!!!

Self Diagnostics Mode

The Self Diagnostics Mode gives you in-depth information about your

engine and the actual numbers in digital. To use it, follow the steps:

* Insert Key but do not turn it on

* Press and hold the Trip Meter Reset Button

* While holding the reset button, Turn ignition until dash lights come on and

continue holding the button

* Within 10 seconds, the display should change to "test" in LCD font

and the needles will do a full sweeping. Release the Button

Pressing the button will now cycle through some 17 different modes

* 1. Shows a Gauge Sweep

* 2. Shows all 8's on the LCD (LCD TEST)

* 3. Illuminates all the bulbs on the dash

* 4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level

* 5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level

* 6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)

* 7. Digital Speedometer - mph

* 8. Digital Speedometer - kph

* 9. N/A

* 10. Digital tachometer

* 11. Fuel volume

* 12. Engine coolant temperature

* 13. battery voltage

* 14. ABS fail

* 15. Electronic brake distribution (EBD) failure

* 16. Illumination

* 17. Crank Sense

Global Opening

To reset the windows, follow these steps:

Hold the switch down until the window is all the way down

Release the switch then hold down again for 5 seconds

Press the switch so the window goes all the way up

Release the switch and press it up, again for 5 seconds

The window will now be set for one touch and global opening/closing.

Repeat this procedure for each individual window...

Turning Off Seatbelt Reminder

Before starting this procedure, make sure that... The handbrake's on It's in Park

or neutral.Ignition is off. All doors are closed (and you're in the car). All the

seatbelts are unbuckled. The headlamps are off.

Deactivating/Activating

Turn the ignition switch to position II. (Do not start the engine).

Wait until the safety belt warning indicator turns off. (Approximately one to two

minutes).

The next 3 steps must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure must be

repeated.

Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt

unbuckled.

Turn the headlamps ON then OFF.

Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times ending with the safety belt

unbuckled.

After this step the safety belt warning indicator will be illuminated for three

seconds.

Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning indicator turning off, buckle then

unbuckle

the safety belt. This will enable the belt minder if disabled or disable belt minder

if enabled.

The following sequence will confirm the belt minder is enabled:

The safety belt warning indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds.

Three seconds with the safety belt warning indicator off. The safety belt warning

indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds again.

The safety belt warning indicator flashing four times per second for three seconds

provides confirmation of belt minder disabled.

After confirmation,the deactivation/activation procedure is complete

1 If the vehicle doesn't have a seatbelt warning light, use the SRS (airbag) warning

indicator instead.

2 If the seatbelt light doesn't normally come on until you move, proceed as above,

without initially

waiting for the belt warning indicator to go off (in this case, after the second three

buckles, the

indicator will flash a couple of times, instead of being illuminated for 3 seconds)

Two Stage Unlocking

Press both Lock and Unlock buttons on you key at the same time, wait until the

indicator lights flash once.

When complete two stage unlocking will be activated / deactivated accordingly.

Remote Central Locking Programming Instructions:

Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (off)

and back four times within three seconds. Remove the ignition key.

The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds the

red warning system LED stays on continuously to indicate this.

During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and

code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the

warning system LED.

Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.

Program a new key (Note you require at least 2 keys to program another)

Insert the first programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II

Turn back to 0 and remove the key

Insert the second programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II

Turn back to 0 and remove the key

Key programming mode is now activated and you have ten seconds to:

Insert the unprogrammed new key into the ignition and turn to position II

Turn back to 0 and remove the key

Allow 10 seconds to pass for the system to exit programming

Guide ID: 10000000005697837Guide created: 17/02/08 (updated 04/06/09)

Not able to try any of these as I'm still waiting for my new Fiesta, est del date mid Sept.

Enjoy! B)

Unfortunately none of the 'locking' procedures work on the New Fiesta. Damn shame!! :-(

Chris...

Damn, thats the only one I would want out of that list too as I like the idea of the doors locking while on the road (as they did on my Smart For Two)

Yeah the passenger window doesn't have auto UP / DOWN at all. A few lines of code in the body control computer is all it would have taken; and you could have copy and pasted it from the drivers' window routine.

Yeah, I want the 'unlock from the fob ONLY the drivers door and THEN the passengers with another click' function. Even the !Removed! Dacia Sandero has that function from the factory!!

CAN YOU HEAR ME FORDDDDD???
