hi new to this forum could anyone give me a brief step by step guide on renewing the clutch on an escort 1.4 p reg its only taking gearbox off that i need help with

Well, disconnect everything you need to, ie gear linkage, clutch cable etc,

Then take out the driveshafts and catch the oil, undo all the mounts needed etc, undo the bolts onto the bell housing and out she'll come.

ok cheers for advice vinnyvangough it sounds like a simple job to do as long as its not like doing a clutch on a vectra thanks for advice

Should be esier than a Vectra, i know they are a nightmare

back gearbox mounting is the only real problem. The rest is as simple as a clutch on a FWD car gets. Make sure you put it in gear and mark the gearchange rod clamp or you'll end up with your gearchange all over the shop.

thank you iv been looking for the gear linkage but cant find it i know on vauxhalls its at the top but im new to FORD so could you tell me where it is please cheers

Its a single rod under the back of the gearbox. You put it in gear mark it and loosen the clamp (13mm) and wriggle it free. Sometimes they're tight and have to be tapped(NOT smashed) off, but usually just pull off. Then undo the single bolt holding the steady bar (19 or 15mm) taking car to catch the thin spacer.(it may be missing). I asume that it's your post on the vx forum, pleases ignore the joker who advised taking out the engine! As yours is an early Mk VI you might be lucky and have a gearbox drain plug fitted. It's an 8 mm hexagon just underneath the driveshaft on the passanger side. They only put them on for a year then some bright spark realised they could save 0.0001p per car and no longer put a plug in. You can drain some of the oil by removing the stop plunger at the front of the gearbox if one is'nt fitted. Hope that helps
