I am the current owner of a Vauxhall Corsa C on a 04 plate (New Ford Fiesta is on order)

I was wondering how good the timing chains are on the fiestas, reason i ask is because on the corsa after 30,000 miles the timing chain has gone.

I hope the fiestas dont have the same prob?

Can somebody reassure me?

new fiesta have cam belts mate. they should run to 100,000 miles or 8 yrs some people prefer to have them changed before this. Chains on fords are all but dead now (some one will correct me) toyota still use chains on some models as do nissan. Chains breaking at 30,000 miles naughty vauxhall . chains breaking are quite rare usually just rattle on for years. Belts however do snap but no reports from mk 7 fiesta owners yet. i think most vauxhalls suffer from tensioner issues, my dad used to have a zafira 1.6 16v. my uncle who has his own garage recommended that as soon as it had done about 30k miles to get the belt and tensioner done as they are cr4p.

vauxhalls are notorious with chains to be honest i hate chains noisier and a lot more hassle quite a few seat ibizas had an issue as well with the chains snapping very early we had a 7k one in snapped seat were paying us to do it in the end we refused as there was a problem with the oil not lubricating all of the chain design fault cambelts mate you shouldnt have any probs never had a vauxhall never want one had a hire car that was an astra once and it was a pile of s==te

VW 1.2 3-pot, and 1.8 20 valve engines had chain issues. (the 1.2 12-valve was bad from 2002--2004, and was due to tensioners,--they took out a mod in 2004, and extended the chain warranty to 5 years, also 5 years on duf coil-packs.)

The Haynes manual for the Mk 6 Fiesta reccommends renewing drive belts at about half the stated interval. My Son-in-law's Alfa 156 broke its cam-belt just out of the warranty mileage but within 3 years ;--£4000 cost to him, and later Alfa denied a claim for a failed hydraulic pump in the paddle-operated gearbox, because he couldn't wait for the dealer network to fix the car, so he got a pump and had it fitted at a specialist garage. The item WAS subject of extended warranty, but the Alfa back-up has that type of reputation, as does FIAT.

Both FIAT and RENAULT have had a history of breaking belts more than 10,000 within advised interval, and I would certainly change other belts/tensioners/water pump/thermostat at the same time as the cam-belt. Rubber degrades, and not just by age. I live by the sea, and the car sits outside, with billowing sea-spray blown down the street.
