Hi all.

I've just got a Mk1 Focus (post-facelift), and am thinking about making a few vaguely tasteful modifications to the interior, in particular the gear knob and gaiter, and the handbrake handle and gaiter. I'm looking at the following bits of kit, mainly:

http://www.richbrook-styling.co.uk/hand-brake-handles/-handle-with-grips---special-ford-fitment/111
http://www.richbrook-styling.co.uk/official-ford-collection/handbrake-handles/32
http://www.richbrook-styling.co.uk/official-ford-collection/-gear-shaft-gaiters/37
http://www.richbrook-styling.co.uk/official-ford-collection/-handbrake-gaiters/38
http://www.richbrook-styling.co.uk/official-ford-collection/gear-knob-for-normalstandard-reverse-gearboxes-/30

Now, when it comes to anything practical, I'm not hugely skilled. I can put together flat-pack furniture, but nothing more complex than that really. I'm just wondering how complex these things would be to fit. I'm certainly unsure of how the gaiters would fit (or, more specifically, how to remove the old ones), and wouldn't want to bugger up how the handbrake works when putting the handle on.

Any help/advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

its actually easy the handbrake one pops out flat blade screwdriver at the side and out it comes for the handle youll need to get a sharp knife and cut down the handle a few times till you spliyt it once thats done you refit the handbrake boot then the handle attatches with a grub screw for gear lever its the same pop the boot out and look up youll see a tiny cable tie keeping it tight at the top cut it and off it pops the gearknob just twists off its screwed on replacement is a reversal its pretty easy just watch youre fingers when cutting the handbrake handle off

So the handbrake only comes off by tearing it to bits? Not sure if I trust myself doing that... I can see me tearing the old one off, then the new one not staying on at all, and me being up a certain creek without a paddle.

yes you have to cut the old one off and the new one is secured on with a grub screw and shouldnt come off

Ah right. Seems like I should be able to do these jobs, now just have to weigh up the money side of it.

Sorry to pounce on your post mate, but can are the screw-off gear knobs the same on the mk2s? I pick my car up on saturday but noticed that despite a fairly low 63k miles the gear knob i decidedly well worn and needs replacing!

yes the one i have is from a 2008 focus titanium so yep they screw on/off any one needing help with this heres the full instructions and diagrams where i have them

the gear gaiters easy the only trouble you may have is the original is usually stapled to the bottom of the holder so youll need to pull the staples out you can staple hot glue youre new one in place i used staples as its easier and more secure.

the handbrake handle Peel back your handbrake gaiter to expose the entire stock handle.

Using a sharp stanley knife, cut the "black" rubber sleeve on the handle down the middle on the top, the full length of the sleeve.

Don't try to penetrate the entire rubber sleeve on the first cut, take a couple passes. It's at least 1/8" think, take your time. You are not going to hurt anything. The actual handle is a hard plastic.
Once you have completely cut the black plastic sleeve, remove it. It peels right off.<LI>Slide the new brake cover onto the handle.Tighten the supplied screw using the allen wrench that is included.Pull the boot back up over the new brake handle if fitting the gaiter as well do the gaiter first youll find the whole gaiter pops out if you put a flat blade screwdriver down the side this may also be stapled

Cheers, I was using those links just for illustrative purposes, so I would've shopped around a bit first. Never gonna pay manufacturer prices ;)
