Hi,
1997 FORD ESCORT 1.8TD Encore 5dr Diesel Estate
44 000 miles
£625 seems like a very good deal. Wondering if there are any signs to look for.
Says it runs well, but rusty rear arch.
When would cam belt and clutch normally need replacing on this car? can i expect a reliable run for quite some time?
Anything else to watch out for/expect to have to replace soon?
Many thanks for your help

Hi and welcome to the club
Well these engines are very reliable when looked after.
Just check the turbo spools up nicely, and pulls well through all the gears.
Lower arms go for a past time on Escorts so check there is no knocks or bangs and she drives straight and true.
Again, arches are prone to rusting out as well as rear chassis legs and sills.
Just have a general look about and go from there

If you have no proof of a timing belt change...get it done asap as they are a major failing point...the idler and tensioners fail causing the belt to snap this snaps the camshaft in turn and is a major expense. Make sure you get a timing belt KIT.
