you need it plugged into the computer for diagnostics mate it sounds like a possible idle control valve issue but the traction control may indivcate other faults best way to find out whats wrong is to get it plugged in

I had a similar problem years ago when I had an Escort, and it turned out to be a split in one of the air hoses.

hi, dont if your problem is solved yet...should imagine so but here goes, i had a similar prob on my 1.8 vreg an what i did was replace air filter and cleaned the sensor inside the big bore on the induction pipe where the wires connect to it on the air filter pipe. also check the area top left under bonnet, theres a vacume sensor their ..mine was cracked so replaced it and hey presto no more mis - reving. cheers.

I had the exact same problem with my 01 1.8 petrol focus and it was the idle control valve that needed changed. replaced the idle control valve and i have never had the problem since.

hi just to say thanks to everyone who replied to my post i took my car into fords and it was the idle air valve that need replacing which stopped the traction control light coming on as well and the fuel usage as gone right down now as well so result all round thanks
