Stalled trying to pull away in 2nd gear, car was still rolling when restarting the engine.

Pulled away in 1st, up to 2nd, up to 3rd, then a strange ticking noise started.
Gradually worsened into a big grinding sound with loss of power (engine was still running, gear may have slipped out?). I pulled over and was able to drive off normally after.

Does this warrant any concern? It's done similar after stalling before, but not as bad as this.

Car is a diesel if it matters.
