Hi,
The best value for money spec, has to be a late '06 onwards Zetec climate....that is if you want all the bells and whistles.... otherwise any spec is well worth having...check for working/faulty climate control..can be dear to fix. Engine wise, the 1.4 petrol is quite frugal in itself, but the 1.4 diesel, is very economical if a little asthematic!...1.6 petrol ...can't really see the point unless you're a boy racer.... 1.6 diesel, I don't know enough about it to comment.
Essentially though, not bad little cars...a bit like a tardis....!...but best of all, the young 'uns don't like them much, so generally they are in fair condition, and rarely thrashed. good luck with your purchase.
hope this helps.
