hi i dont tent to use this website to much as i know not alot about cars just love to drive them haha unfortunatly i have had a leak for about 4 months now.
but me being me i decided not to get it checked out and thought ide just keep toping up with water. but know i have started to get a very weird noise from the engine. also the leak has become a lot worse and i find myself filling it up with a big 4 pint old milk bottle every day. however, the engine heating light still comes on and i drive with an overheated engine and a very dry smoking burning engine. i got it looked at today by a mates dad who used to be a mechanic. he informed me that i had a leak i already knew this. he then said something about a coreplug inside the bell housing. i just wondered what this was and if anybody knew how much it would cost to get fixed. it sounds like quite alot would anyone recopmend me getting rid of it getting my money back and letting sum ova nuttah find out about the promblem pmsl. help would be m,uch appriciated

The bell housing is part of the gearbox, unlikley to have a coolant leack there really

Check the oil dipstick for grey colouring or creaming.... As the water usage could be caused by a head gasket leak, Although it could also be down to many other things too. Check the dipstick, Also that all hoses are tightly secured and not loose.

If all seems ok let us know again and will offer other possiblities

could even be a leaky water pump or inlet manifold gasket

Look around the engine, look for WHITE power type marks. These will be caused by a water leak... This could indicate where the leak is from.

The causes of losing water are almost endless. Check what here and if you have no joy ask again but let us know what you have tried.

Core plugs are what the manufacturers put in when casting the engine blocks ect they need to place chanels forthe coolant to flow round . The core plugs are just steel caps almost like milk bottle tops only thicker and made out of mild steel . Sometimes these can corrode with age especialy if no antifreeze is used . Anther possability is that the engine may have frozen up at some time and the expanding ice has forced out the core plugs which are forced in rather like a cork in a bottle. Other than that it may be a head gasket. Like the rest of the replys say see if the oil and water have mixed in the engine . Emulified oil is a sure sign Brummiebetz
