morning everyone,
just curious as to whether the vinyl covers for the 3rd brake are road legal? seen some around where you can have your choice of letters cut out on a vinyl strip which stick over the 3rd brake light and therefore light is only seen through the letters etc
or are there better alternatives than just the sticky vinyl covers?
cheers,
shaun

Technically yes, on the basis that your vehicle technically needs only a minimum of two brake lights, the third high lamp, is just a convenience and to aid clarity, however also technically no, as it could be classed as a distraction. I would say as long as you dont get too complicated in your design then you should be ok. for exacmple, I have seen ZT on the back of someones MG brake lights, didnt look out of place at all and still let a lot of the light through.
Cant say for definite if a policeman will think the same though...

thanks jeebo! that was basically the same thought i had! i've seen a few with 'focus' which i thought looked rather good but tempted by having my initials 'SMG' so it a little different!

Yeah, overall I think you should be fine, as long as you dont go OTT, just keep as much light as possible shining through!
