I have a 2001 Ghia estate, when I got the car there was a dvd player that had been mounted upside down on the dash. Removed no problem, pulled all connections through glove box, closed it fine, went to reopen and nothing. Have a feeling that the rod may not have connected right or something else has come off. How do I now without breaking it get into it?

i think you will end up replacing the catch as this is a common problem on the mk3 mondeo.
