Until recently all ok with my Focus Ghia 1.6 16v Zetec SE.

Now when starting, the rev's hit their normal 1100-1200 rpm, but hang in there slightly longer than what they did last week. What suprises me more, is the weather recently has been hot, so why should the rev's hang about. It's like it's extremely cold start.

They used to drop off after about 2 mins, now they are up there for around 4 mins, before slowly dropping down to around 800rpm.

Any idea's would be appreciated, as this is a annoying little issue to me.

idle control valve is the likely culprit despite it being hot weather the engine when left overnight is still cold so the auto choke will go on

Thanks for that, sorry you mis-understood, I'm not talking about leaving the car overnight, I'm talking about during the day, whilst it's been hot, not stood.

I've had a Escort, what suffered from the idle speed control valve issues, and this is not the same, with the valve issue, you normally get a stall, and /or the high rev's, I'm talking about a slight hanging of around 200 rpm for a couple of extra minutes above the norm.

possibly a temp sensor issue?

I replaced the temp sender about 2 years back. When that went faulty, it made my gauges do weird things, they were all over the place. Having said that, its a cheaper option to try first.

the cable for the temp sensor running over the ht leads has been known to cause issues and make things play up.

it does sound to me like the car thinks its cooler than it is. is your car getting up to temp ok? could it be the thermostat is stuck open or partially open?

sounds like the butterfly in the throttle body is sticking open
