TDCiST
This isn't exactly a project thread, as I'm not planning on anything huge! But I do have some small things planned for the car, so will use this to keep everyone updated!

The things include:

- Twin Reverse Light Conversion - Half Way Through........
- Colour Code Fog Surrounds
[s]- Colour Code Bonnet Lip[/s]
[s]- iPod integration for stereo (not sure how yet... but I'm researching!) [/s] Not iPod but MP3 USB Stick... As Good As...
[s]- Footwell Lighting[/s] For FREE!! Result
- Twin Boot Lights
[s]- ST Upper Grille[/s]
- Zetec S/ST Lower Grille Conversion

Obviously some of these already have guides written, but if I come across one that hasn't (Like the Twin Reverse, for the Mk2.5) I'll do one!

Also, being a keen photographer, ill also bung the odd picture up here, and also keep it up to date with meets I attend with my other owners forum, that may be of interest to others here!

So to start! a bit of history!!

First Ford I owned, was a 1.4CVH Fiesta Freestyle... which for some reason i cant find any photos of!

My Second was the Mk1.5 Focus Edge 1.8TDCi 115..

Had ST170 Cosmetics (Lower Grille with TDCi Badge on, Headlights, Foglights), colour coded front grille surround, Twin Reverse Light Conversion, De Badged, Mondeo ST Rear Badge.
Dragon CRDII Tuning Box, see graphs above, gained about 10bhp and 40lbft! I knw not as good as a map, but we all make rookie mistakes when young lol!
K&N Panel Filter.
I had some ST170 alloys too, that i bought about a month before things went wrong!

Loved this car, still do! I hope whoever bought it at the auction does her proud, and makes a nice little project from her!

And Now, Because the last one met an untimely demise at my busiest time of year!! I bought my new one!
The 1.6TDCi 110 Zetec S.

Hopefully this one should last me similiar if not longer than the last!!
jeebowhite
Sounds like you have a few plans there so all the best to you! look forward to seeing your car evolving!
TDCiST
Well I think I've finally decided on what cosmetically I'm going to do with the car...

The front will be treated to some 3M carbon effect Vinyl, on the bonnet lip, and silver fog bezels. The fog surrounds may go panther black, to match the car.

It will get full DMB carbon effect gel overlays for the ford badges, and I'm also thinking of carbon effecting the rear diffuser/splitter... Unsure on that at the moment tho..
jgriff
plans sounds good mate
TDCiST
Yeah, just trying to work out how to vinyl the diffuser... lol its gonna take a lot of swearing, hairdrying and probably a lot of wasted vinyl lol!!
jgriff
Does the grey part come away from the rest of the bumper? If not you need to be wary of putting on the vinyl then coz with any form of pressure washing the water will get under it on any edge thats exposed and lift it. Its ok on the bonnet lip as you can take it off and fold round the back of it therefore not leaving any edges exposed to lifting
TDCiST
Yeah i had that thought... i may just spray it darker grey, to kind of match the Carbon... we shall see! lol

Ill experiment, i'm not afraid to do that.
TDCiST
Ordered my DMB Carbon-Silver badges today... gone for the full set, Bonnet, Boot, Alloys and Steering Wheel! all for £26!

Will be with me soon, and ill fit them asap! Should look good against the black.

Next step is to order the Carbon Effect Vinyl to do the bonnet lip!

TDCiST
Well the new toy arrived!

This is after about 2 minutes... not sure if the foam isn't thick enough... Any tips would be gratefully received!

Also, i think i need a slightly alkali one, as the PH neutral didnt seem to remove much in the way of traffic film. Or maybe its just the fact it was my first time! And i need to work on my mixture/technique!
jeebowhite
Lol, what does the snow foam do exactly? is it just meant to help clean your car (replacement or additive to the shampoo?)
TDCiST
Its a pre-cleaner... So removes surface film and grit etc, to reduce swirls and scratches when washing your car.

You can see what comes of when its dripping onto the floor, but once i had rinsed it, there was still a heavy soil of crud on the rear of the car. However a slightly more alkali foam may help here... Or maybe my foam wasnt the right consistency so didnt dwell long enough...

I'll get it right after a few attempts!
TDCiST
My 7 DMB Badges are now in my possession!!

Gonna stick them on tomorrow! Pics will follow!
alkyz89
hi mate sorry i didnt get to your topic sooner... iv got the full dmb badge set and found the alloy ones to be a nightmare... i spent ages on them.
i cleaned the car first and dryed it all off, then cleaned the badges with methalated spirits then rubbed dry again.
i then used a hair dryer to pre-warm the badges, both new and existing and stil found they didnt stick properly.
mayeb i had a dodgy batch, but because the wheel badges are not recessed like the front and rear they are exposed to the elements and the wind and rain whilst driving.
i have since removed mine as i was having to push the edges down before setting off on a trip lol
hope you have more luck with yours!! let us know how you get on...
TDCiST
Ah i see... I'll keep that in mind, tbh i'm not sure if ill stick over the top or actually remove the ford ones and just put these in there place. Ill let you know!!
alkyz89
i didnt know if the badges on the wheels could be removed... but the overlays did look good but obviously wernt to be

not the best of pictures but gives you and idea... like i said let me know how you get on... and dont be shy with the hair dryer/heat gun you need them fairly hot.
TDCiST
They all seem to have gone on fairly well.. And I got them nice and warm with the heat gun... Pics will follow shortly!
Barry_
Look forward to seeing the results
TDCiST
Pictures Attached!
Lenny
They look excellent on the black body work mate,
and love the alloys B)
TDCiST
I'm really happy with them! All apart from the Steering wheel one, thats about 1mm to wide and 1mm too short on the height lol!

but it doesnt notice TBF.
TDCiST
Ooooh i almost forgot... Monday saw the arrival of my Personal Plates on the car!!

Went down to the DVLA office, waited half hour, did the paperwork, phoned the insurance and BOOM! plates on!

Very happy with them!
Stoney871
Looking good, still got my carbon ones to go on yet.
Haven't had a warm enough day so far.
Probably wait until spring, wouldn't want them peeling off on me.
TDCiST
@Stoney871 I was lucky enough to have my Scene Dock at work to drive into to do the work... And a heatgun lol!

So first clean the badges! i also used isopropanol, then wiped with a microfibre towel, just incase any residue was left.

Then warm the badge up so its warm to touch, then warm the gel badge on the sheet until its floppy, then peel off and stick... they go on great.

I then used the heatgun again to warm, and applied as much pressure as i could (Almost too much on the front one, think ive broken it lol) then let it cool naturally before driving out into the -1 temp outside!!

I had one problem with air bubbles under the rear badge, but this was solved with the heatgun and pushing the bubbles out to the edges. One edge then refused to stick down... so again, the heatgun came out!! Needless to say, its stuck down now!

The next morning the whole car was covered in frost, and nothing appears to have peeled or come off.. Even the steering wheel one that i peeled off and reapplied has stuck on ok again! This is the only one i didnt heatgun...
Stoney871
Jobs a good un then.
I'll wait until i have a reasonably warm day.
No rush.
Barry_
Nice!!
TDCiST
Little update, Nothing major... Finally got the mix sorted on my snowfoam.. and the trick of adding a little shampoo, certainly made it able to be left to dwell longer!!

Just a couple of pics of her clean!

alkyz89
hey dave,

car looks stunning mate, didnt realise you lived fairly close!!
jgriff
Love that car, looks class!
TDCiST
Cheers for the comments guys...

I've just ordered a STC Ford "mUSic-Box" as they call them (See HERE!... It will allow me to put all my MP3's in Folders on a USB stick, and play them by selecting the AUX button.

Its a retrofit solution, however as yet, it doesnt support iPhones or iPod touch (it doesnt mention Nano's tho... maybe these will work? ill do my research once ive installed it)

There was no idea of availability when i ordered it, so i may have to wait a while... But I'll keep you all updated!
alkyz89
looks smart mate, does it plug into the aux port?
TDCiST
It plugs direct into the back of the radio, then sorts everything out lol

I'll know more once I have the unit in my hands lol
TDCiST
Rumour has it, My Ford mUSic Box has arrived.... I'm picking it up tuesday as its my next day off. I'll let you all know a) if its the right thing, and B) how i get on fitting it!
TDCiST
Installed...

Working, Plays all sorts of music, and I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised!

So far its played, MP3's, MP4's and WAV's can't comment on any other files as yet!

The hardest bit about the installation for me was finding a place to stuff the harness adaptor behind the radio, as there is little room... First couple of tries resulted in the fascia being slightly too far to the right, and fouling the hazard light switch, but its all fixed now!
TDCiST
Ok.. Have a bit more time to explain now..

Pictures will follow!

Started by removing the trim around the radio, starting at the bottom. It takes a bit of a firm tug to get it off!

Once this is out my radio is simply removed by 4 screws! I see ford don't worry about security with standard head units lol!

Once the head unit was out I removed the glove box. I kept the tray handy as instead of putting the cable in the centre console, I want it in my glovebox.

With the headunit out, I removed the connector block, and quite simply... Put the split lead in... Then I ran the music box lead through to the glovebox area, clearly the newer wiring harnesses are a lot shorter, I had to cable tie my music box to the metal support of the airbag.

With this is place I plugged in the harness and the USB lead.

At this point I tested it all worked... Nothing worse than putting everything back and finding it doesn't!!

Once I had enjoyed some high quality mp3's it was time to put it back properly.

I now drilled a hole in the back of my glove box tray, an cut it square with a scalpel. I pushed the USB connector through, and put the tray in place. It all fitted great!

Now for the bit that took an hour to sort!!!

There is... What can only be described as... sod all space behind the headunit! I struggled to find a decent place to put the extra connector block and cable, eventually I managed to squeeze it into the top right hand corner near the clocks... It was tight!

I put the headunit back in, cover back in place, and then found the hazard light button would then Stick in... So the fascia off, radio came out, and back in, fascia on.... Then fascia off, back out, and back in fascia on..... And so on an so on about another 4 times... Until eventually I got the radio and harness and fascia all in the right place... (seriously brain surgery would have been easier!!!)

I now enjoy some great tunes, on a 16gb memory stick, PC World, 18.99! Bargain!

Works a treat, I'm well happy with it!!
alkyz89
do you get any display on the radio and can you use the stalk control/ head unit to change tracks?
TDCiST
As yet no display on radio. Whether future software updates will allow this I don't know.

An yea full steering wheel functionality...Short press, track skip... Long press, album/folder skip. I believe this is the same on the headunit... Haven't tried the album skip yet... Will do later on..

Only thing that annoys me a little is a beep when the album changes... It's one of those annoying frequencies that drills into your head!! Lol

Currently plays mp3, WAV, mp4, haven't tried any other formats yet.
TDCiST
Just a little cosmetic update... Got bored of my chrome strip at long last... Painted it black.

and your car is very dusty lol from the roads, time to take out the sponge and soap lol
TDCiST
I see what you mean lenny... I also like it because thats what they do with the ST... So next on the list is to colour code the Fog Surrounds and the Chrome Bezels...
alkyz89

FLORYFOCUS
Hi,

I noticed you were interested in having a carbon bonnett lip. My TDCI Zetec S arrived on Thursday, I had only seen it in photos and I got a nice suprise when I found mine had one.

Just thought I would show you a pic incase you hadn't seen one on. To be fair you have done a great job with the spraying though, looks good?

Could I ask where you got your wheel badges from, I would like some to match my white and red badges if they sell them?

Thanks.

here is a link to dmb http://www.dmb.uk.com/cat/35/wheel-centres
and the white focus would look good with the roof vynal wrapped black mate,
FLORYFOCUS
Hi Lenny.

Thanks for the link. I will get some better pics uploaded in the daylight.

I have had a quote of £250 to have the roof wrapped in raised carbon fibre from a reputable local company so that is definately on the cards. Might to the fog surrounds and wing mirrors too.

My main focus at the moment though is trying to work out what the best air filter upgrade would be, heard bad things about induction kits sucking in hot air and actually losing performance but I cannot see an upgraded (K&N style) pannel filter making any difference. The BMC one you linked me to in a previous post looks like a good option but is a little pricey. I guess you get what you pay for...

Any Ideas how I can fin out if the car has allready been remapped? I had the 115 1.8 tdci before and this one is much, MUCH quicker. (A lot more than I would expect from the extra 20bhp) I dont want to fork out £400 to find out I have not increased anything and possibly made it worse. I wish I knew someone else with one for comparrison.

hi mate,
the wrap will look sweet on the white, and if you look at the st rear spoiler it has a kind of bowl round curve on the top roof section,
if i was wrapping the roof i would wrap in the curve of the spoiler too that would put a nice finish to the wrap at the rear instead of a full white rear spoiler.

and my best advise for the power would be perhaps a code red induction kit.

That's a nice looking carbon lip... I'm still planning to do it but I just wanted shot of the chrome!!

Also a guide will follow for removal/vinyling/painting the lip!!
