On several occasions now we have gone to the car and found all 4 windows down. All 4 electric windows, all controllable at each window and at the drivers seat. I thought at first I had been incredibly stupid for not checking -- but when it happened today my partner agreed we had not left the windows open!
So I sat in the car, used the key to double lock the door. Then used the key to unlock the doors and at the same time the doors unlocked, all 4 windows automatically rolled down

I've recently learned by keeping your finger on the unlock button it does this -- but it randomly does it when i'm not pressing the unlock button. Been out to put windows back up twice now in 10 mins.

How can I disable this?

Thanks

Hi Newbie,

I was searching for an answer to this problem on behalf of a family member - who incidentally also lives in Lincolnshire (Sutton Bridge). Twice whilst out shopping he came back to find all the windows open and a few days ago his neighbour came round at the crack of dawn to tell him that his windows were all open again.

He has read through the hand book but there are no clues there and he is at a loss to know what to do.

So any answers would be most welcome.

Best wishes,

Angela

Sounds like it is a problem with the GEM control unit in the car, the only way to stop this is to remove the fuse for the windows or try locking the passenger windows if the button is present in the car, although this wouldnt stop the drivers window too.

also check the relay box in the engine bay close to the battery, because if water has gotten in to the relay box all kinds of strange things can happen in the car, such as wipers turning on and off by themselves even when the car is locked, also indicators, horn, headlights, and alarm. because the water causes a short circut on the relays.
but most likely a fault with the GEM unit.

Fault with the global window open procedure - you could try deactivating it and see.

To reset the windows, follow these steps:

Hold down the down switch until the window is fully lowered

Release the switch momentarily, and then press down again for 5 seconds

Hold down the up switch until the window is fully raised

Release the switch momentarily, and then press up again for 5 seconds
This window will now be set for one touch and global opening/closing. Repeat this procedure for each individual window, and if fitted, the sunroof...

To deactivate it totally just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and the global settings will erase - be sure to have your radio code first.
