I called my local ford specialist the cost of a cambelt/tension/water pump
is £422 inc vat and labour sounded a bit high to me. They did say its a 2
hours job.

Second garage indy £270 all in for the cambelt only not the water pump, I
just out of habit get the water pump done.

I'm just wondering whats a reasonable price for this job ?

Although I may source the parts from euro car parts or gsf and then just pay
the labour for the job although the second garage said they won't fit
customer parts, I asked why "we just don't"

To add my focus only has 48k but I don't have a world of history on it and it does have a tow bar so may have worked a bit harder than most and I plan on keeping the car to the bitter end

The above prices are for genuine parts, but I was planning on getting the continental calbelt kit at eurocarparts

i used macklin ford up here i had a genuine ford timing belt kit fitted which was the belt and tensioner as well as replacement cam bolts etc and the fan belt done for £187.68 inc vat that was all in must be cheaper up here as you guys are being well and truly ripped off whats the labour rates my fords is 35 quid per hour labour

I had mine done in November at a good local indy and they supplied and fitted the belt, tensioners and water pump and fresh antifreeze for a total of £256.20 inc. That was the best price I could get after ringing around 5 - 10 garages.

I said to them to change the aux belt at the same time if it needed it and they said they will check it out when they have it apart. They said they would only charge the cost of the belt if they did it.

I gave them an opportunity to charge me more and they didn't take it as they said the belt was fine. I'll be going back there needless to say.

when i got mine done in 2010 at my local ford garage in Romsey (Hampshire), i think i was charged about £400ish for belt change and new water pump.

when i got the timing belt done on my 2001 1.6 petrol it cost me about £240 IIRC. garage supplied timing belt kit and genuine auxilliary drive belt.
