Hi all, I have had a Focus 1.8 TDDi 2004 estate for a year. Very pleased with MPG.
A couple of months ago the car started cutting out and then would start again normally
with the key. Brown pants time came when it cut out on the motorway with a big artic lorry
right up my backside, I managed to turn of the ignition and start again only for it to cut out
again a few hundred meters down the road. I trolled through all the forums and taking advice I had
the fuel oil air and pollen filters changed which made no difference.

Back to the forums, I had the crankshaft sensor and the accelerator pedal changed
Still no difference.

Had a nightmare last week when it cut out 8 times on a 6 mile journey.
I called out the RAC who did some diagnostics and came up with;
U1900 CAN Communication Bus Fault - Receive Error B902
The nice man from the RAC decided to follow me home, but cars being cars, no problems.
I bought my self a Ford F Super Diagnostic interface, this came up with 2 more error codes;
U0105 Communication with fuel injector control module

P0149 Fuel timing error.

I can’t afford to pay main agents prices to rectify the problems. I would appreciate any help
and advice from the forum. Thanks in advance.
I know older diesels have a fuel cut off valve located in the injector pump. It's activated when the engine is running, and when you turn off the ignition it closes - if these are faulty it usually won't open at all, or causes the engine to run on after removing the key. My brother had a similar problem on two Escort diesels. Both were fixed for little money and took me 20 minutes.

I am not entirely sure whether this is something fitted to the newer diesel engines, they are more like a petrol engine now with the injection of the fuel being controlled electronically rather than with the pump. The pump still exists but isn't timed to the engine as the ECU decides when to open the injectors, very much like a petrol engine.

If this part is fitted to your engine, then I would think it's worth further investigation. It could be cutting out while the engine is running. If your engine does not have this fitted, then it could be an electrical problem causing the injectors to stop opening. 'Fuel timing error' leads me to believe the fault lies within the injector(s) or diesel fuel pump. These could potentially be expensive to replace, the problem is modern diesels are so much more complicated, it might be worth trying to find a diesel engine specialist in your area. There's one near me which charge £25 for an hours diagnostic check, failing that a Ford agent will be able to do futher tests and hopefully give us something more to go on.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Dan. I will have a look for a diesel engine specialist in Manchester.
Mondickiedoo tddi
did you get your problem sorted i seem to be having the same problem with my 2001 tddi mondeo the AA guy told me its the lift pump next to the fuel tank but im not convinced yet lol if i leave mine for 30 minutes to 1 hour it runs fine again for about 5 miles then starts the cutting out problem again just starts and runs for about 5 seconds leave for 30 mins then runs fine again for about 5 miles im not sure if its a milage thing or a time thing so lets say 10 or 15 minutes
