I have recently done an engine change on my mk3 petrol zetec and have managed to cock up the timing. Can anybody advise on how to reset it as there are no timing marks on pulley. the car starts but sounds like a diesel on a bad day.

How did you mess up the timing? I didnt think it could be adjusted. I am probably very wrong and stand to be corrected.

it is possible to alter the timing on a mondeo, certainly during an engine change. If the engine is turned backwards the timing chain goes slack and can jump a tooth. As i bought the engine from a breaker without the flywheel the engine could have been turned backwards when removing this. I have now been informed that to time this engine you require a crank locking tool which is inserted via a plug in the block, this locks the crank at TDC. I am still trying to obtain one of these plus where the plug is situated in the block, any help please
