Hi folks, need a little brain power on this one. My ford ka which is an 05 plate 1.3 5 speed manual has developed this whine noise only in 5th gear and not all the time. Any ideas before i go and change out the tranny and find I still have the noise?

these gearboxes are usually bullitproof first thing to do would be to get the oil level checked.

The gearbox oil do you mean? or both engine and gearbox?

So you dont think I need a new gearbox?
and if the oil levels are fine what else may make this happen?

check the gearbox oil if this is ok its hard to say what the trouble could be, a local gearbox specalist might be able to help you

check your clutch plates could just be struggling to grip 5th
