Gear lever wont return to central position from left side (between 1st and 2nd) but returns to central position perfectly from right side (between 5th and Reverse). Have been told its an easy enough repair to replace this "gear lever return spring" by removing gear lever gaiter and centre console, Even managed to find a decent guide with pictures on another forum.

Question is, Where's the cheapest place to buy the part and would anyone know the part number? I contacted ford but the bloke didn't seem to know what I meant and was trying to sell me the entire Assembly of the gear lever.

Any help much appreciated as usual, Cheers.

I had to do exactly the same when I bought my mk1.5 Focus.

It's a common problem with the longer side of the spring snapping off.

It's pretty easy to take apart and only slightly more difficult to get back in but all in all can be done in 15 mins.

I paid pretty much the same from a local parts supplier. Just over £6 from what I remember.

Just been out and done this, Was out there all of 10 minutes.

Followed this guide: http://www.passion-focus.com/bricolage/ressort_levier_Focus/Replace%20a%20return%20spring%20.pdf

Literally took longer to take the gear knob off than it did to replace the spring.

All working again, Thanks guys.

PS I did find an unused plug under the centre console, Aparently this is for traction control? Would it work if I just buy a button to plug onto it?

Yeah, I think I used that guide too. I did find that I didn't have to remove the whole centre console though. I just removed the gaiter shroud bit.

Can't help with the TC question, but I'd definitely be interested in finding out.
