I wouldn't like to think what ford would charge for such a simple job!... That's even IF they'd consider taking the job on when the part wasn't bought from their dealership...
It looks like an easy bond, use generous seams of sikaflex on the de-greased bumper, tape it all into place using tightly stretched tape...leave the tape on as long as possible before careful removal...

Still haven't got around to taking night photos yet.
Been a tad busy at work lately.
I'll post some up when I get some time to myself.
Going from 5 wedge bulbs to 12 LED's will have to make a fairly big difference though.

Yep, that's the one.
Only differences in fitting are that the wire connector comes out of the back instead of the side so as to allow the longer light spread (lines up with the recess inside the spoiler so no problem) and the foam seal is not so floppy and annoying to fit.
Looks far better though.

Another question i have is i have original halogen headlamps in my car can i do a direct swap to a set of focus st xenon headlamps? Are the plugs etc the same or will i need to modify them?
Thanks
jgriff
May 14, 2012, 3:06 pm
Rhysd1
Is yours the mk2 or 2.5? Mine is the mk2.5 and have fitted the st xenons headlights. It was a straight swap with the only modification needed bein that an extra earth wire into port 8 on the plug in order to get the xenons to work

May 14, 2012, 3:13 pm
Hi mate
I'm in the process of fitting the ST Bi Xenon headlights at the moment (funding is an issue) but I have the actual lights just no bulbs or ballasts.
The ST Headlights will simply plug into the existing sockets and the Bi Xenon 'shield' works as soon as plugged in (I have a video of the shields working but haven't uploaded yet), that's about as far as my knowledge goes at the moment, but I do hope to complete this project along with fitting the headlight washers.
some pics to show the difference
Hope this helps

Hiya its a 58 plate econetic but making it look like a zetec s so its the facelift model so i believe its the mk 2.5 am i right?
And how hard was it to fit the running lights as i want to fit them just above my fog lights too?
Thanks
jgriff
May 14, 2012, 3:31 pm
Yes mate its the 2.5 you've got. I've got mine fitted 8 months now and haven't had a problem. I've since fitted 8000k bulbs to them and make a great improvement with no problems with mot
rhysd1
May 14, 2012, 3:35 pm
yeah thats the same ones i want is the 8000k and they are fine on the MOT yeah?
how hard is it to fit the new earth wire too?
thanks
jgriff
May 14, 2012, 3:41 pm
Had my mot for the first time two weeks ago and it flew through. Once you've got them focused correctly you'll have no problems. Adding the extra earth is a piece of cake. The blanking piece on port 8 just pops off and you feed the wire in. Then either splice into the earth wire in the loom or earth it to the body like i did, so its easy undo if i ever decide to sell the headlights (which is highly unlikely)
rhysd1
May 14, 2012, 3:45 pm
happy days haha
how do u get them focused properly though?
thanks
jgriff
May 14, 2012, 3:49 pm
I got a mate of mine to check them before it went in and although they needed slight adjustment he said they weren't much off. However this is the mot in Ireland, don't know how strict they are in the UK
rhysd1
May 14, 2012, 3:51 pm
great haha i hope they should be ok do they just secure to the framework the same as the original ones? and did you have to modify the bodywork at all?
thanks
jgriff
May 14, 2012, 3:56 pm
No very same fixings, clips on bottom and torx screw on top, that's it. For me who knows nothin bout car electrics it took me 15mins from start to finish when fitting these

If a sharp eyed MOT inspector spots that the lights are over 6000k they may fail them.

May 14, 2012, 6:45 pm
Found it very straight forward to fit the DRL, I think I read in Preee's guide that you need to drill a hole behind the foglight surround to run the cable through to the LED's but I didn't need to do that, there are a few holes that will fit the wiring through without needing to drill anything. The wiring was simple enough too, just positive negative and one splice for the dimming feature.

The controllers for the DRL's will fit on to the back left side of the battery box too if you wish to fit them that way.
