Hi all,
I have a mk2.5 focus and ive purchased a Genuine Ford Zetec S body kit for it,
the complete zetec s rear lip is in primer grey
my focus is moondust silver what colour should the centre section be sprayed on the rear skirt to give it the look of an original Zetec S
is it sea grey metalic?
or would it look good in sea grey metalic next to the moondust silver body?

i really apprecieate the time you have taken to gather and upload those pictures.
the panel seems to be in primer similar to the colour of the new Ka grey so im thinking ill just get the outer section colour coded to the car and leave the centre section as it is because it seems to be a close enough match if not the same as the one in the first picture you have uploaded above.

To be honest mate those pics were just copied from dealer websites 
is that all one part or two separate parts? because I think mine is in two parts, although I'm not sure
I think it would look better coloured in sea grey or black, this is something I am considering as the 'primer' colour looks a bit plain, well in my opinion, but even the 'primer' coloured one has metallic paint as standard.
If you were to leave it just primer it will gather dirt and be hard to clean, it will need a lacquer coating to prevent this. Just in case you didn't know, I don't want to insult your knowledge

i dont know anything about painting mate so please share your knowledge with me and the rest of the readers, please dont be afraid to share knowledge encase it upsets people, im no professional and were all here to learn and share information and i apprecieate all you are telling me,
the panel is all one piece and comes with a new blanking plate for the tow eye, illustrated fitting instructions and four rivets,

okay I shall share some of the little knowledge I have on painting car body parts. For a start I have only used the spray paint from halfords, and have no experience using a spray gun but the methods are the same. Using the spray paints requires alot of practice as will not get the right finish first time if doing yourself, but by the sounds of it you are having the parts professionally sprayed?
if you imagine the primer part to be a piece of paper, it can be drawn on by a light or heavy pencil ( the dirt / mud ) then the lacquer is like laminating the paper, so only something like a permanent marker or a sharp tool ( road tar, or scratches ) will affect the laminated paper.
With the light or heavy pencil marks, these can be hard to remove from the paper using a rubber and will likely smudge ( trying to wash mud off the primer will 'grind' the mud into the paint )
The laminated paper can be cleaned easily using water and soap ( same as washing the lacquered parts with soapy water and a sponge )
Just an example.
However it is more complex than just painting and then lacquering as each coat of paint must be left to dry then sanded with very fine wet and dry. Up to 2 or 3 coats of the paint are needed then maybe 1 or 2 coats of lacquer, however this maybe more depending on how thick you apply the paint.

i have a friend of a friend who runs a body shop from his house and has all of the equipment,
he sprayed the rear spoiler for me for 70 euro so hopfully the kit will be along the same lines.
and i just need the sea grey paint code,

so then it would be much easier to explain to them what im after and all they need to do is spray the outer section with moondust silver that they can mix themselves and use the halfords cans on the diffuser part,
would four cans of halfors 300ml sea grey be enough do you reckon?

I have managed to get hold of the ST rear bumper and plan to fit the ST diffuser on it. The diffuser is a dark grey cvolour but i plan on painting it black - was gonna try carbon fibre effect but gonna stick to black instead.
Also got hold of the front zetec spoiler now and skirts are the only thing missing. like yourself, i just need the time to be able to fit it all. the front spoiler will need trimming as it has lugs which attach to the front bumper? I will try and post some pics later.

Lenny, I had a look at the front spoiler again and one of the lugs is loose hence why it looked like it was sticking out, I placed it against the car and its fine.
Just need to get round to painting it and the ST rear bumper and the rear diffuser. Found someone on another Ford forum that does an RS diffuser but is asking for £150! Mine cost £40 off ebay.

ha ha i'm only joking Stoney. i normally go to my local paint place as they supply trade and leave it to them to make the right blend and find the code for me!
hey lenny i will take some pics in a day or so for you.... what i did notice is the diffuser on the silver cars is a dark grey, but the diffuser on the sea grey, blue or black zs is a lighter grey. Hense why i got a silver car as i think the diffuser on the black cars looks cheap and plasticy (personal opinion) lol

I think it would be best to let the proffesionals paint both sections as using the spray paint will have a different effect to the spay gun.
Maybe you could just take one can, just so they know what colour you want. Just an idea

As far as I know the diffusers are all the same colour, it's just when the car colour is lighter ( white or silver) than diffuser this gives the effect that the diffuser is darker than on a coloured car.

As far as I know the diffusers are all the same colour, it's just when the car colour is lighter ( white or silver) than diffuser this gives the effect that the diffuser is darker than on a coloured car.

whatever you do, do not buy anything off that buyer from Poland. It may look good but is anything but. I got caught like that and bought side skirts and had them a few months before got round to fitting them and they were nothing but rubbish. The fella in bodyshop said you could spend two days tryin to get them to fit and still wouldn't look right. If Im honest save up for a good set as it'll be worth it. I've still got them at home and can't get rid of them

A splitter in carbon wrap or Gloss black would liik sweeeet
but if you plan to lower it on 32mm eibahs and fit some 18'' ST alloys with low profile tyres,
then perhaps the lip wouldnt be a good idea mate, i had planned to lower mine on 18'' ST alloys untill i saw this guys focus.

would be cheaper on me too because halfords are 12euro per can of the stuff, and then id still have to pay labour costs for spraying that section in the body shop
so 12euro for one can is enough and just pay the body shop for the labour and paint would be cheaper than buying 4 or 5 cans plus labour costs

looks good, could you go under the car and take some pictures of the panel where it joins to the bumper in the centre,
also european parts stock and sell a lovely stainless steel duplex system, but for the rear box, duplex pipes and stright piece to connect to the cat.
for those 3 items in stainless steel with chrome tips they want 732euro including postage via DHL
and
theirs nothing wrong with a diesel

Sorry about the mud :S hasn't had a wash in two weeks
Basically it just mounts in exactly the same places as the original bumper, the last two pics show one mounting for the side skirts, they have three screws per side all mount underneath the car

thanks for taking the pictures and dont worry about the mud i didnt get any fitting instructions with the side skirts just the front and rear parts came with fitting instructions, so its good to know that they are supported by three screws under neath the car aswell as the pop in clips along the side of the body and some tiger seal. i have printed these pictures for future reference

i have printed all of them to A4 size so i can study them in further detail, and it looks like they used some body kit glue to hold it on along with the rivets, the fitting guide also recommends to use some body kit glue from ford but it costs over 70 so im going with grey tiger seal would be just as good as the ford stuff
im really happy with the information and support im recieveing from all of you regarding this modification and really looking foward to the first week of next month when the ball starts rolling on this.

sorry to cause concern mate
im getting overly excited about getting the kit fitted, its been on my list of things to do for a hell of a long time now,
and its finally going to happen so im really excited lol its like waiting for santa to arrive,
because i know what im going to get but i dont know how good its actually going to be depends on the body shop,
but he made a good job on the rear spoiler and he's 54 years old been spraying since he left school so should be ok,
just cant wait to look out the window and see a moondust silver zetec s parked in the drive.
the zetec s is not available from the ford garage over here,
only available in the uk and some have imported them to ireland but ive only ever saw one Zs focus in ireland and it had northern reg plates on it, so mine will stand out from the crowed a bit.

so instead i Purchased a can of Peugeot Metalic Graphite Grey which is a slightly brighter shade and i think it looks good when next to the metallic moondust silver on the rear diffuser.

unfortunitly they didnt have any tiger seal or anything at all for fitting body kit panels
i asked the girl for some body kit adhesive or similar and she handed me a tube of two part glue 9euro for a 50ml tube
how many of those would i need to fit the side skirts?
so ill be purchasing the tiger seal from ebay

dropped my front skirt and rear bumper off to the painters today. will collect it next week. gonna paint the rear difsuser myself - gloss black. hoping to fit it all at some point soon!
Another thing you might be able to try is Mirror adhesive , i stuck a 2m x 2.5m glass mirror in my bathroom , 2 years ago and it's not moved thank fully , i remember when reading it , it said it bonds to wood , plaster , plastic , metal. it cost £10 per cartridge.

im going to use this stuff to fit the front lip, rear skirt and side skirts, along with the rivets and screws etc.

the rear bumper and diffuser will be put together and then bolted on.
another product that you can use is "stick like sh*t" which you can buy from screwfix. it works in the wet too and and what it says on the tube!

we dont have screwfix over here mate,
so im going to import some grey Tiger Seal
i also spotted this rubber lip on ebay looks good, think ill purchase a strip and try it out on the front lip once fitted as it may prevent any scuffs from appearing around the bottom of it

Given your skills though mate, i'm surprised you aren't having a go at painting the bits yourself...
I only use my local (excellent) bodyshop for main panel work nowadays, i do a fair amount of home painting these days it seems, i've done quite a few sets of wheels for mates with good old rattle cans in my shed

thanks for the comments and vote of confidence in me too mate I’m really looking forward to seeing it fitted its been talked about for ages but finally happening, and I’m crap at spraying I haven’t got the patience to do it, the only thing I’ve ever sprayed was my rear view mirror in the focus plus I’ve got two little girls aged 4 and 6 who are in to everything so a wet painted panel from the car would be a disaster when they decide to play football in the garden lol
the easy option is to get the body shop guy to do it, plus he done my st spoiler when i bought the car and he made an excellent job of it and charged me mates rate, because a mate recommended i go to him,
he isn’t my local body shop he is 130km away from where I live but he’s top man with a sprayer.

I'm well in with my bodyshop guy too, he's taught me a lot down the years, and he's a great fella for bouncing ideas back and forth... He always listens, and contemplates any problems i may encounter, and to be honest, if i fetch him a "50 quid job" half the time he doesn't charge me and jokes to "remember him at christmas" (hic)
I know what you mean about having "liccle un's" knocking about after painting though... I've only just last year treated myself to a home built monster shed, designed primarily for little painting jobs here or there, it's my new home from home!
I can't wait to see your motor when all the new bits are on... It'll make such a difference to an already really smart car.
