i have just bought a new gear knob for my focus zetec s .How do i get the base of the leather gaitor off the centre console so i can take ithe old gear knob off

you dont need to the boot slides down over the shaft ooerr and the knob unscrews at least it has on every ford ive had the base is removed using a flat blad screwdriver lever it gently at the end nearest the dash

i used a clean flat wallpaper scrapper with a bit of kitchen towel for protection... and gently lifted the silver surround from the front (the bit nearest the handbrake) once thats off just unscrew the gear head. bare in mind the leather and silver trim are all attached... hope this helps

iv got the richbrook ford one fitted to mine ..just pull the gaiter down and unscrew. no need to remove the surround
