Hey fellas!
Yesterday I had my mk2 58 plate vision blue focus windows tinted and am really impressed with how it turned out!
I was speaking to the guy who did it and he said if I wanted to he could carbon fibre vinyl wrap whatever I wanted on the car for a really cheap price.
I am thinking about maybe having the silver part around the gear stick/handbrake done and perhaps the radio facia?

I was hoping I could get some advice on what parts look best in your opinions :).
Also he mentioned something about wrapping my lights also, any ideas to if this looks good?

Thanks in advance and today I will take some pics.

Regards.

Hi mate,
personally i think the door pillars that are currently black, they would look good carbon wrapped, but leave the rubber sections as they are and wrap the flat surfaces that are currently black.

the light wrapping is a film that goes over your tail lights or headlight units, its basically window tint that is put on to them,

the centre console would also look good mate, but before you go for wrapping have a look at ''hydro dipping'' it wont ever peel like wrap could do and it give the same effect. their are different styles of print too such as air brush effect skulls and flames,

Envyus
Thanks for the advice Lenny!
I love the idea of the door pillars!!

I think I will give those ago providing the guy has a dark enough wrap as if he only stocks like a grey colour it wouldn't look right.

Just went out and took a couple of snaps on my iphone also:

Before the tint:

After the tint:

And the part I am thinking of wrapping/dipping:

Have you ever seen the door pillars done Lenny? Would love to see some examples of that for sure!
Lenny
Nice one mate,
i saw a Vauxhall astra done with the door pillars and had a little nurburg ring decal on the bottom of them,
some cars have carbon fibre doors and the pillar is exposed like that too,

here are some links to the real deal mate,
http://streamlinecarbon.com/v2/products-page/focus-rs-mk2/focus-rs-mk2-door-pillar-trims/

was the tint expensive to get done ?
Envyus
They do look smart but are pretty expensive :P.
I think I'll try the vinyl on the pillars and see how they come out.
The tints cost me £150 + VAT but in my eyes a huge huge improvment,
Mike77
Just gonna jump in here, first off the car is looking great ;-)

But can any1 advise me,,,,, the pic of the centre console, there is a flap that covers were the cig lighter is... But on my mk2 it is just open? Can I fit one in mine or is it just for the mk2.5. Any advice would be a great help.

Thanks guy's!
It deffinately does look much better wrapped for sure.
Have any of you attempted to wrap any other parts?
Stoney871
Some have wrapped the steering wheel trims, bonnet trim and boot handles.

Mike, that is the ashtray - i think there is a guide on here on how to fit it.

Hey guys, new here.

I have a vision blue 2008 Focus, I keep seeing them with the rear windows and hatch tinted. Just wondering how much was it for you to get that done?

Loving the idea of wrapping the centre console. Don't think I'd be too happy tearing it all apart though!
artscot79
ive got ford sunblinds on all the rear windows just as dark as the tints and looks tinted and cheaper.

ive wrapped the gear surround the stereo fascia trim and the rear door handles as well as the battery and fusebox cover the side pillars are not a good idea the sun will heat the plastic during the summer and the glue lifts easily.
as for the ashtray cover easy to fit hard to find and ridiculously priced even on ebay
Mike77
Thought as much, I could only find 1 on eBay and that was from a guy who wraps everything he sells in carbon, so this one was 55 notes... Bit much really lol. I wouldn't use it as an ash tray, just an extra 'out of sight' storage thingy.
artscot79
the prices are truly shockin for a bit of plastic ive seen them sell for over 70 ill check the scrappies just cnt justify that ppce for what it is he wraps them as they are 2nd hand
project-c
the bit your on about looks nice wrapped. I wrap mk1/2 Gear surrounds, Door handle inserts, wing mirror caps, and ash trays and the wing mirror control panels. To be honest its a nice way to lift the interior ,as they can be quite plain and boring. Here is some pics of the things i have done for mine, and sell on ebay :)
This is mine

And a better look at the interior panels is on my ebay page (Honestly not a shameless plug)

Not sure what he wraps them in exactly, but he had a few bits from the focus st for sale, all were done in carbon wrap, and he states he has numerous years experience in this field.

On another note, I'm looking at some of the work in these photos,,,, having never tried it myself, how do ppl get this stuff to sit correctly on some difficult contour's ? My head can see it, but my mind won't let me understand lol.
project-c
heat.... patience and a dam sharp scalpel blade :) . GOOD quality vinyl apposed to cheaper stuff really helps.
Buy bubble free if you haven't done it before as the adhesive backing has a honey comb effect to disperse the air bubbles easier.
For me the harder ones are the interior mirror covers, passenger side is easy, but the drivers is a bastard because its 3 sided and a weird shape lol
artscot79
i was wrapping before it was popular rule1 dont use hdat guns they get to hot and focus the heat to much a hairdryer does a far better job.
the quality of the vinyl matters cheap stuffs just no good

shaping just takes practice and patience and how you cut vinyl makes a difference

Hi guys
I've just vinyl wrapped the bits between the doors that were bumpy plastic. Done them in gloss black to match the window tint and really pleased with the outcome. It's very simple to do. I didn't take any of the bits off the car, just cut to size( just a bit bigger than the part) and hair dryered on. This was the first time I ever tryied it and was very simple, if you get it wrong just peel it off and start again :)
I will be happy go give advice to anyone willing to give it a go. Vinyl wrap from eBay 3m x 1m was about 8 and the applicator tool 2 so not expensive at all
Hope this helps
jgriff
Any pics of the finished article?

Here's my 3d carbon wrapping of interior parts:

I skipped the ashtray door and the row of buttons above it - thought it gives a better flow with the other hard plastics around.
The steering surrounds are my favorite bit - I always found the silver shine too annoying while driving in sunny weather. Now it all blends nicely - I'm happy.

Btw, I did use a heat gun for this. The vinyl I used is Oracal Wrapping Cast 960. The trick with using the heat gun is that you only heat the vinyl for a brief moment and always work with a relatively small area at a time. I think that's the easiest way to shape and mold the vinyl around the surface. In addition, if you don't heat the vinyl enough the glue won't hold properly. On my first attempt I was too lazy and used the wife's hairdryer (still a powerful one) and I wasn't too pleased with the result.

I've made some mention and photos of removing the MK2.5 console in my Ford USB Music Box guide (in the guide section) - it's quite easy.

At one point I was really keen on wrapping the vent surrounds but I couldn't get them out with little power so I gave up before I broke something. :) If anyone knows how to easily take these out without causing permanent damage, please, share. :)
artscot79
did mine silver as everyone seems to be doing black carbon so i went a bit different glovebox handle and rear inside door handles are done as well as the battery box and engine bay fusebox cover.the silver works with my interior black would just have been too dark for me next step was to get the oval sony stereo though seeing the prices and with a baby on the way sod it the one in will do though does anyone know if i can fit usb to it
Affy
Heres my centre console carbon wrapped - never tried it before and found it fairly easy - hairdryer and craft knife - doesn't take long either!

Am loving how this turns out fellas!
Can anyone advise how you would go about cutting out holes? I am thinking of trying this myself and dont want to mess it up :P.
Also where do you guy's get your wrap from?
artscot79
to do the holes theres 2ways first is to cut the inside of the hole in half then half again like a pie then you can heat and fold the wrap to the rear of the fascia or get a very sharp stanley blade or craft knife and cut the hole from the rear.wrap ebay search bubble free wrap
Envyus
Thanks artscot! that makes sense :).
I unfortunately don't use ebay so I'll search google and see what I can find.

Edit:

Found this on Amazon, would you say this is a decent price.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-carbon-bubble-Wrapping-1000mm/dp/B007TVSRQW
artscot79
thats a fair price mate
Affy
To get the best results from the holes heat the area and smooth the wrap into the area before cutting - it will stick to the sides as it stretches over then you can make the cuts - like a pie as mentioned - i made many cuts around the circle and found this gave a smooth wrap over the edges. Just use heat and if you go wrong heat it back up and start over.
HI
i'm thinking of doing this around the silver/grey trim around the gearstick handbrake part of the centre console. does this bit of trim come off? mines is the mk2.5 focus as in the above pic
Affy
Ther are two TX20 (I think - might be TX25) screws in the arm rest that you undo and one under the little map in cup holders then you just pull the whole console out - you cant remove the silver trim from the rest becasue it has plastic welded rivets so you just wrap it in situ - heating and stretching over curves and CAREFULLY cutting the wrap where it is close to the trim. The silver holder of the garstick gator and the lighter come out so you dont have to be so fussy with the finish there.

Using a blunt, thin object - I used the back of a dinner knife - you can push the slight excess inbetween seems and that gives a great finish.
Envyus
Thanks alot for contributing to this thread fellas! Plenty of useful info in here for all now.
Just been in touch with my wrapped and he says he will if I want it done smoke my headlights and rear lights for £20 a light so £80 all round.
What would you fellas say to this?
He took a picture he did today of a T5 and it looked mint, do you think it would look smart of a Vision Blue focus?
artscot79
id be careful having the lenses smoked the rears should be fine but the headlights may not be we used to do it with the vags and it looked smart but the m.o.t guy failed the car as the film refracted the light or summat
Envyus
Thanks bud I'll bear that in mind.
I am goig to make sure though that if I do go down this route that I keep within the light requirements before I do make any desicions.

I did a quick mess around in photoshop, what do you guys think looks best, before/after.

yes mate,
i think they do look good, but ive spoke to one guy who had tinted is mk2 headlights and said quote:
''the filmlooks great on the car but can make it fun seeing at night being completely honest! and even worse in heavy rain! as the rain sticks in the wee holes but im hardly out when its badly raining or at night so doesnt bother me too much.''

im not sure if the mk2.5 headlights have better bulbs or light output than the mk2 mate but i suppose you could try it for yourself and see.

and here is his focus in real pictures these are not photoshop models :

Quick one guys, back onto the wrapping theme, i've ordered some stuff, just wanted to know if I have to remove the radio to get the fascia panel off on a 2006 mk2 model. Tried with a blunt knife earlier but it seems to be trying to move the radio too ? If I do need to remove the radio, is there any alternative to using propper radio removal pins ? Cheers in advance, Mike.
Stoney871
To remove a MK2 radio fascia you need to pull the radio out first.
Proper tools are needed as the radio clips are pretty much impossible to disengage without them.
The fascia is held in place with 2 torx screws either side of the radio slot and some clips lower down to hold the fascia to the vent controls.
Watch this youtube clip for proper instructions.
It's for fitting an aftermarket radio but the removal routine is what you need to do.

http://www.youtube.c...1&v=gN15v6_zGvs

The radio connector in the clip is different to the European one but here's a pic on how to remove it - flick the small catch and then swing the clamp up to disengage the connector.

Above all--- Make sure you have the radio security code before removing your radio.
Mike77
Cheers Stoney :) will have to go buy some removal pins then lol, always something to keep me entertained.

Lads I did a bit of carbon wrapping the weekend myself, I got a roll of bubble free wrap for 13euro which is about 10pound. I am going to get more to do the side mirrors and the radio fascia. What do ye think of the mods done?
