hello everyone.

im really loving the st alloys and was wondering if it would be a straight replacemant. as in take my old ones off and fit a set of st alloys.

car i have is a ford focus mk2 2005 1.6 zetec 5 door.

Hi :)

Yeah the st alloys are a straight swap, however there are different st alloys for the mk2 and mk2.5 (facelift) both should fit either model, just look a bit different

Hope that helps :)

Aren't the ST wheels 18" and the regular Mk2 16" as standard?
I don't believe there is a problem with offset or arch clearance but the speedo settings will be off unless you fit low profile tyres.

Possibly, but nearly every car I've driven has had an offset in the speedo anyway by a few mph, and going to bigger wheels almost seems to rectify.

Did it on my old Peugeot - put new tyres on it 2" bigger, and the speed went from being originally about 4mph inaccurate to almost perfectly accurate.

forget about the speedo being off, i think it will read higher if i remeber correctly. i have 19's on mine. they should fit without any issues.

and the speedo is off by 5kmh on my focus because when the gauge says 185kmh the sat nav says 180kmh and im rolling on ST style 16'' wheels

thanks mate, they were fitted to the car when i bought it through the dealers, hopfully fitting some 17 or 18 inch versions next year to fill the arches a bit better but the same snow flake design of alloy.
Millsy1
if u find a set let me know when u sell yours yeah? lol.

could always fill the arches with a full of set of coilovers haha!

lol fit some coilovers then squeeze the ford flip key fob between the bumper and the road,
to take some pictures for you guys lol i dont like the car too low i may lower it on 18s with some 45mm springs then it would be at its current ride height but the wheels would fill the arches too,
and my wheels have some small scuff marks on the edges here and their mate so i wont be selling then for more than £250 with tyres when the time comes but ive got a list to get through before i get to the alloys lol

Question, so my Speedo's inaccurate? I always assumed my Sat Nav wasn't accurate?

every car is out my some ammount so its ok, and not a fault,
i spoke to a calibration company last month who calibrate the weighing scales in the place that i work and they also calibrate the speed guns for the gardi over here and apparetly the are calibrated to +5kmh so if the speed limit is 120kmh then you would need to be doing 126kmh or higher to alert the siren. i know its not much but if your speedo is 5kmh ahead of the actual speed and the speed gun wont alert for speeds under 125km then in theroy your speedo would need to display 130kmh for you to get pulled for speeding at 125kmh

4mph is very good.
But your speedo will always give a higher figure than your sat nav because thats the way cars are set up. In fact the law allows for it - by up to 10%

Why? so that you have a margin for a speed limit. When your speedo says 30mph you are actually doing 27-28, so you won't get caught speeding.
But if your true speed was 31-33 when your speedo said 30, if you got done for speeding you could in turn sue Ford because you thought you were doing 30 - because that's what your speedo said.

Also bear in mind that the number your speedo displays is calculated from the radius of your tyre multiplied by the number of rotations per second - and this 'standard' radius is set at the factory when the car is built.

If the radius of the wheel changes, the number calculated/displayed by the speedo will be different.
So if you put larger rims on, you have to compensate with lower profile tyres so that the total diameter (and therefore the radius) is the same.

Most tyre websites have calculators for this, so you can check what's the right size tyre to fit.

Note that as your tyres wear, the diameter reduces slightly and your speedo will become a little bit less accurate - simply because of maths.
