Hi Guys, after reading a guide on another forum (ST Owners Club) i decided to go mad and CUT my bonnet to fit some RS vents (replica's) from RSparts (available on ebay). These are bonded on using Sikaflex (Screwfix £8.00).

So what do you think?
gc88
Honestly? I think you're mental.

Really? I think you're a legend.

Can you take a shot with the whole car, a bit further out?
Marcr1
I think they look good and I'd never have the balls to do it :P even if I took it to a garage I don't think I could watch!
Millsy1
give ya credit for going at it. but looks like u done a cracking good job.
gc88
Also, do they mean the engine gets wet through the vents / under them? I'm not au-fait with all this :)

I assume a cooler engine = better?

Want to do mine? :D
Stoney871
Brave man but a good result.
salsheikh
thanks for the kind comments guys. i've done this before on my Golf MK2 GTI approx 12 years ago using Nissan Primera vents and knew it wasnt too difficult a job.

Water will get in but the RS copes fine with it and the diesel should be fine - the engine cover will remain to protect the engine?

I will try and take a few more shots of the whole car when the weathers better.
.Ryan
Looks good man!

looks excellent mate, and the gloss black goes really good with that colour of blue too. a picture from the front would be good mate, with the front lip and the headlights aswell as the bonnet lip and vents all comes togeather nicely,

any difference in engine noise with them or turbo wistle ?

looks good dont think id want water getting in though the st is fine its got hotter underbonnet temps though with all the rain we get ? i hope you sealed the paintwork where you cut the metal.
salsheikh
bare metal is sealed with Sikaflex so will be fine. fingers croosed i dont suffer any electricals gremlins!
Paddy H
Oh this is brave! Very good job. My hat goes off to you.
artscot79
i wouldnt have the balls to cut holes in my bonnet but it looks sweet especially with the deep blue
alkyz89
have you got the rs or st body kit on the car? looks good but i personally think they might look odd on the bog standard focus... looking forward to seeing the car in full!!
i bet you were bricking it drilling the first hole lol well done
STEADS
As long as you take your time making your templates and getting the positioning correct before you start any cutting or drilling its not as daunting as it appears i put side vents in my range rover bit apprehensive like you would be at first but just take your time and youll get it right finish off by filing to get an exact fit
salsheikh
here's a pic or two from the front/side

Cracking job and the Focus is looking cool.
alkyz89
i think its safe to say your car is looking sweet dude
Paddy H
Thanks to you I'm highly considering painting my chrome strip to black now. Car looks real nice. Love the RS bonnet effect. I assume its just sprayed that way correct? like over on the lip.
Good work
Leemaxd
They look exelent mate, well done, they go really well with that colour blue aswell.
Your focus looks stunning 👍
salsheikh
thanks guys. Patrick, the bonnet trim is covered in gloss carbon fibre effect film, although black looks just as good.
Now, all I have to do is sort out the side skirts and gauges for the pod. Insurance is due this month and its gonna be approx £600! so gotta budget. I was hoping to have it finished for Ford Fair on 12.08.12

I have managed to get an RS front lower grill and will see if i can make that fit but might need a second bumper for trial and error.

Jay Ali
Can't wait to see it
jeebowhite
Brave, brave, brave fool :) :P lol, it looks sweet, and I hope it doesnt cause you any problems at all :P, but I couldnt do it myself!

As many have said before, hats off to you, but I couldnt take any serious hardware to my car like you did!!

Well done!
Loz Cheung
man you've got guts!

fair play to you. i saw someone with a pretty good replica on my way in to work last week, it had me fooled until i saw the LX wheels!

good job
salsheikh
Loz, what colour was the car and where did you spot it?

I'm currently sporting some 5 spoke 16" alloys (use for winter) and will clean and polish mine before they go back on - BBS CH replica's in black.
salsheikh
so far so good fella's, the engine cover is doing its job.
Stoney871
BTW, Lovin' the new profile pic mate, very suave indeed ;)
salsheikh
thanks Clive. Me dreaming about being the next hugh hefner lol!
Loz Cheung
i saw it in stratford upon avon, 5 door - i think it was silver? or maybe white covered in filth...not sure exactly!

is that your driving gown? ;)
Hassen
Awesome job! Very professional looking end result. The Focus looking better now with the vents and I think the black on blue makes a big difference.

Nicely done Sal

TDCiST
Loving the car mate.

Next steps?? Personally if say it needs an ST Upper grille and maybe the Zetec S lower grille, maybe the darker Zetec headlights also??

Looking sweet though!!
salsheikh
Thanks Dave.
next steps have been EGR blanked and decat.

I'm waiting on you to do the honeycombe lower grill mod for mine lol!
TDCiST
Haha! I'm slowly mocking up bits in photoshop, from various angles...

It's gonna be harder than it looks I feel, due to the way the fins are designed.... But it's still on the cards!!
salsheikh
next on the cards: got a k&n filter to go on soon and then hopefully a remap to let her loose!
