Hi I have a 1998 focus 1.6 I was driving yesterday and realised that the needle didn't move, I parked at the shop turned it off and on again it still didn't work drove home and just before I got to my house it started working. And now it's not again! Can anyone advise what to look at?
Many thanks Tracey

Common fault on the mk1 focus I believe, moisture behind the speedo could be causing the problem. Has it only happened once and if so does it happen during rainy weather? I have the same problem on my fiesta mk6 53 plate. Could also be a speed sensor failing but more likely its the "instrument cluster" The problem I think is something to do with the solder they used on the instrument cluster circuit board...cheap cutting corners approach! if u do the dash trick there is a way of viewing your speed in digital format, also doing this will show up any diagnostics error codes if any have been logged.

There is a thread on here if you type dash trick into search engine. It setd the dashboard into diagnostics mode so u can view the electronic engine management data.

When your speedo stops do you feel a drop in engine power while driving?
If so then definitely the speedo sensor.
If no power loss then condendsation on the speedo circuit board.
Remove, spray with WD40, leave to dry somewhere warm, wipe off excess and refit.
