Its called Rip off Britain. You have always had to pay for damage to the highways and signs etc, I remember a mate, taking a road sign out in the early 80's and he had to pay for it. These do seem to be a rip off though

DIdnt even hear this but my god! what a p*** take!
So dont ask for help, risk your life and save yourself a few quid!
I thought that this was what insurance is for? surely the highways agency should have some form of insurance similar that they could claim from? and I thought that my money paid for the RFL ( TAX DISK ) incorporated this?

When I severely damaged some signage on a roundabout a year or so ago my insurance covered everything - or at least I did not see a bill for the repairs
