Hey guys since I'm not the sharpest at this whole car customising and still relatively new on here wat on earth is submarine lighting ?
Brigante
ambient lighting mate. it's basically a courtesy light with 2 small red leds built in that shine down when the engines running to create a soft glow over the gear leaver.

see Haz93's thread here for a photo of what it looks like:

http://www.fordowner...arine +lighting

looking at like 80quid though for a new unit unless you lucky to see one pop up on ebay but thats rare
Stoney871
It's also classed as ambient lighting.
It's small led's positioned in such a way as to enhance the appearance of the inside of a car and sometimes shine onto consoles and switches.
I have them in my courtesy light and they shine down onto my centre console/gear stick when I turn on my side/headlights.
Like this unit-

Ah think my car had this two wee red LEDs either side of the map lights

Haz93
(Face palm) oh dear what is the forum coming to :(

Haha

Yeah I have done a guide on fitting the ambient 'submarine' lighting for just a few quid, is just a soft red glow as said before.
talksy
The guide looks really useful, thanks for that.
Couple of questions....
I don't want to try adding the LEDs to mine as from past experiences, I tend to trash it, and I will be left with nothing....
Are there any UK suppliers of the light fitting with the ambient LEDS?

Secondly, and most importantly, does the wiring already exist for the ambient part of the light fitting? Or would I have to run new cables to power these?

Thanks
Haz93
You will most likely have to run a cable to the headlight switch as shown in the guide, mine had a wire going to the led circuit but turned out it was dead :(
k13r4n
I see and I agree with haz this lack of sleep is doing funny things to you guys
talksy
Thanks :) lol

A bit of banter gets us through long nights.
Keeps me sane at work anyway.
Brigante
I'll be quiet now... People are beginning to talk :(

True about the banter though
Stoney871
Working with 2 dogs doesn't allow for much conversation.
The forum helps while away the hours sitting in a lay-by waiting for a shout.
Haz93
Haha spose that's better than sitting there eating donuts like US cops do :P

Talking of donuts you could always make a few of your own with all that time to waste :D

Not sure the dogs would be too keen though
Stoney871
They actually enjoy going fast, they know it usually means fun is coming.
k13r4n
Boys totally moved off topic here would this be submarine lightning ?
Brigante
Yup I believe it would be mate. Not seen a unit like that before though
Brigante
And apologies for going off topic. Won't happen again ;)

If it makes you feel better, see the fiesta club for a kidnap photo of me in me boot.
k13r4n
You can fit in a fiesta boot Charlie ? Lol and don't worry about it I'm game for a bit of banter on here any of u guys have Facebook or Twitter

Yes mate that's right. I think I can already hear our resident law man on his way to explain it better.

What exactly do you mean by neon though?

Don't mean under car neons do you lol? As that's obviously off road only
Stoney871

What you can hear is the ice cream van leaving.
Yes, red rear, white front and amber for indicators and safety markers on vans/trucks where required.
Neon under lights if that's what you mean are off road or show only.

Thought it would be. Never heard of a copper that didn't say it was their pet hate
Stoney871
It has been statistically proven that driving while using a phone, iPod, or satnav is the equivalent of driving while just on the drink drive limit.
The next worse for me is seatbelts.
Even though I'm generally exempt I still wear mine anytime the vehicle is moving.
k13r4n
People who drive with one headlight at night
k13r4n
How are u generally exempt from it ?
