Full Version: Why Did Ford Pull The 115Bhp 1.6 Petrol?

Hey all

I have read that prior to 2008 Ford manufactured a 1.6 petrol in both 100bhp and 115bhp. Does anyone know why the 115bhp was no longer manufactured after 2008 as owners of this model appear to speak more favourably of it than the 100 version?

Thanks

I have a 2011 (60) focus Zetec S with the 115bhp 1.6 engine.

The 1.6 Ti VCT engine was only used from 2008 - 2011 in the Zetec S spec cars and also in the Zetec S, metal and S1600 fiesta mk7

it seems to be a common misinterpretation ford had never dropped the ti vct in fact all focis in the future will likely have it all ford american muscle cars now use the ti vct system as do the ecoboost etc as above its available in certain spec cars

Yeah basically the new Ecoboost engines are just the Ti VCT engines improved and with added quick spool turbos. So ford actually improved on them instead of dropping them

ive seen lots of people askig the question above and cant figure out why the new mustang has a ti vct engine although the mrs sisters fully restored foose built american 68mustang didnt but god it was fun to have a shot

Thanks for clearing it up. Only reason I ask is that I have the 100 version and whilst it is nice to drive it feels like a bit of extra power is needed in certain circumstances.

I find its great at motorway speeds but did use to bog down when accelleration hard through the gears. Its much better now I've fitted a Pipercross panel filter though. In fact I found it much livelier than the 125BHP Mk3.

Ive also found that some of the Mk2.5's appear to behave differently. My mate bought a Titanium model at the same time I bought the Sport and his was really gutless in comparison to mine. I also had an estate version on an 09 plate from new which got better with age. It was quicker and more economical by the time I part x'd it on 24k miles. The only reason I bought another Mk2.5 was I really quite dissapointed with the Mk3 Zetec I test drove and didn't like the price that they wanted at the time. Even the basic Edge model was £3.5k more than the loaded Mk2.5 Sport model.

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what you need from a car. Mine is only a 100bhp model but dragged us 5 up, fully laden to the roof up and down the hills of North Devon as well as other parts of the country with no problems at all maintaing highish motorway speeds and returning over 40 to the gallon. Well pleased with it.

I can't see a pipercross filter for the focus 2009, where did you get yours?
