you should be always going forward when trying to bump start a car, the common cause for stalling is the idle speed controle valve which may require cleaning. but if it did not stall before the backward episode it sound like damage has been done to something.

when you bump start a car never do it in reverse as you said you put it into 2nd so you defo knacked something as you should have put it into reverse not second.
if gowing forward then in second gear is ok.
sounds like it off to a garage for you tet get it looked at.
tell the person that told you to bump start the car in reverse & using 2nd gear to pay for the damage.
have anyone ever hard or driving in second gear in reverse on a ford ka ??
not me for sure only
in reverse gear

Going backwards and dropping the clutch in a forwards gear or vice versa is real bad for the transmission, can't see how it would effect the running of the engine when you did get it running though....unless the jolt shook a wire off somewhere.
