ok guys just want to know what you find runs better through your car. I use normal bp diesel and just threw in half a tank of bp ultimate. I have heard about shell fuel being better and v power being the best fuel to use especially for helping fight turbo lag and aid performance.

ok guys so as I wish to ask bp ultimate or shell v power and why

cheers in advance guys and sorry if I babbled on a bit
Dal.
I've probably used all the fuels available in my ST to see what ran best. I ran for a good half dozen tanks of each to make sure it was an accurate comparison.

It ran on V Power the smoothest and gave the best MPG. (Probably as it has cleaning additives)

But I run it on Tesco 99 Momentum as that appears to give the most power, nearly the same MPG and smoothness as the V Power but it pops and bangs the most which, as I'm a child at heart, makes me grin.

Ive been using tesco momentum since start of last year, previously just used normal tesco 95 and BP 95 before it all got more expensive and I needed my fuel to last longer.

My ST is only mildly modified with an uprated intercooler and Bluefin STG2 map. Not going to start going mad with it. I dare say it'd pop and bang much more with a sports cat (or a decat for that matter) but that'd mean going to specialist insurers which will cost more than the £300 ish it costs me now.

The ST only has a dinky turbo anyway so anti lag (which is really only used on large turbos with lots of lag obviously) isn't really needed.

I can make it pop and bang when I like so that's enough fun without throwing silly money at it.

I use either tesco 97 or V power, seems to have a slight effect on the performance but either of them seem to get about 42mpg in my 1.6 Ti VCT compared to around 38 from normal fuels :)
jeebowhite
always use Shell diesel, I dont tend to use anyone else. I always get better MPG from shell and the car runs better.
martyntdci
for the past few weeks ive used tesco normal diesel, and tbh the car doesnt seem as go-ful as it would on shell optimax... could just be me, but also my mpg is at 35(mayb just under) with tesco... on shell its averages about 40ish foot depending

ok I might give Tesco fuel a wee try as its cheaper than bp as for bp ultimate I'm 144.something a litre so I'm game if it makes better money in my Pocket and better power
Foci_st3
Tesco momentum does give you more miles like it says.

after 4 years of running a Toyota diesel my impression was that of regular diesel it was happiest on Shell.
Every so often I would give it a tankful of Vpower & once a year it got a can of BG244.

bp ultimate and optimax are around the 148.-150. mark here..... normal diesel avarages about 139-140

Hi, surely those owners with diesel engines should reply as, obviously, it is different to petrol engines. My 1p worth, with my Mk4 Mondeo the cost of the fuel outwieghted any 'so-called benefits so save your money, its expensive enough as it is.

I say shell v power all the way
Better performance, better exhaust sound, better mpg
I have been using for a year now and I can see a mahoooooosive difference when I fill up elsewhere as an emergency
Jay Ali
And diesel v power suppose to be much more better than petrol v power
It's proven statistics
martyntdci
13p a litre more better? lmao
jeebowhite
I have driven both petrol and diesel over the last 3 months, and always get better resposes out of both when i use shell fuel over other. I monitor MPG by the tank, 0-60 by the day etc, and I always find better performance, economy and smooth running with Shell over the likes of Tesco and / or sainsbury's.
martyntdci
i use shell, but have used tesco..... shell is far better than average supermarket fuel, due to the extra processes it goes through at the refinary..... i know a bloke who delivers bp fuel, he says keep far away...... (carnt say a reason)

I aint no expert but I personally think it's worth it as it keeps your engine tip top n increases mpg it's proven that shell v power n bp ultimate diesel increases a few bhp over a year or so of usage (Fith Gear n various other surveys I have read over many years)

N it ain't a 13p difference here where I am in dagenham lol even if it was I still think it's worth it
in actual fact if it increases mpg so it IS worth it ain't it fella?

But like I said
It's better on everything I have been using (petrol v power) for the past year n giving you my experience n feed back that's all ;)

I alternate between BP standard diesel and the ultimate, out of 4 fill ups at least 1 will be ultimate if noty more, I tend to use BP as it appears to make my car run smoother, to be honest I have never really seen a rise in mpg but as long as my car runs nice I am not too bothered about getting extra miles

I don't use supermarket diesel these days as I've read that it lacks many of the additives in the equivalent grades of branded fuel and this can be detrimental, long-term, to the very fine tolerances in modern fuel systems. Although they claim it all comes from the same tanks at the distribution centre it's said that the additives are actually put in as the tankers are loaded and their tanks have different compartments for different customers. At the last service the guy offered me a fuel treatment but when I said I don't use supermarket fuel he replied in that case I wouldn't need it.

In my area BP tends to be consistently the most expensive branded fuel.

Apparently they add the extra bits into the tanker itself before they go on a delivery (depending which garage)
mjt
That's what I said (at least that's what I meant).

V-Power Deisel has been much smoother and responsive than BP Ultimate for me on my 1.8 TDCi
