tbf its a diesel... this is what they are for... when we had our last scoobb (b4 the focus) we had it just over 1 yr and only covered approx 8k, 250 of that was bringing it back, and another 500 when we went on holiday.... we had focus in june/july last year, and have put on approx 7.5-8k because its a derv and you get plenty more miles on the same fuel.....

I agree that a diesel engine will do more miles before it dies, but it's not just the engine type you have to consider, other considerations should be; who put the miles on the car how it has been driven in the past, what parts have recently been replaced and service history ect.
martyntdci
very very true there mate. as soon as i got it home it had a full service fuel filter, gearbox etc... changed. not long ago did the coolant system with the red/pink stuff.... now its brake fluid change time, then in about another k, oil n filter again.... i dont know whats its being like in the past except for some bloke owned it for a few years..... but now it goes get put throu its paces lol

i bought my smax just over 14mths ago with 100k on the clock, full main dealer history and servicing, new clutch and air con parts.
its now on 106k,so me thinks its having a bit of a rest now.

this sis not a bad topic actually, to see millage of the same cars (effectivly) same years, same factory/robot etc...... just a pity carnt do like what they did on top gear with the 325's lol

I suppose it depends on the age, and like its been said; it depends on how its driven. For the record my mk5 fiesta is 13 years old and its done 86K. Although my friend has the same car and its only done 40k apparently, but i reckon theres something dodgey going on there.

That's not always the case, all mileages can be checked from the service records and MOT certificates. 40k in 13 years is quite possible. My car is only doing about 4k per year.

Yeah i guess im being a bit cynical cos mine seems to be in better condition than hers, even driving wise. Its all down to the life its had i suppose.

I've got a Y reg focus 1.8 D with 205,000 miles on it. Runs lovely. Had an ex BT Van once on an "H" & I could only prove 360,000 miles. It was showing over 400k. Used it for a courier job for two years and did 105k a year in it. Loved it.

My car is a 58 focus new shape I think and has 68000 on the clock with full service history.
Yet my wifes car is a v reg fiest with just over...... wait for this ......15000 on the clock with full service history as well plus mot certificates. I work that out to be just over 1000 a year.

IMHO high mileage isnt until 15k a year. I think anything up to that is reasonable commuting, but beyond that, its done a bit more leg work. I bought my Cee'd with 20k on the clock at one year old - that was definately high mileage. I just bought the CMAX at 44k for a 55 plate... thats in my eyes low mileage :P

Hi jeebo, a bit off subject, but why did you get rid of the Ceed, I thought you were happy with it, also have you sorted the battery problem on the CMAX?

Hi Stormin, rather than derail this chain :P

Thanks for that link, I had missed that post. Very interesting and a valid reason to return to Ford and a larger car. I hope you soon get all the teething problems with the Cmax sorted and you enjoy it as much as the Ceed.

my motors on an 05 plate and it's very quickly closing in on 100k :(
Stoney871
Mine is an 07 and it's done 82k.
It was a fleet car before so was mostly motorway miles.
Saying that, my work car is lo 59 and has done over 100k.

I seem to overtake a lot of Impretzas in my diesel Mondeo (inc WRX etc- every second car seems to be one in our town at night at the weekend) - often they are "crawling" along - probably trying to strech the MPG to 20MPG  (whats the point of that)

There was a time when 100k was regarded as high mileage, modern diesels can do 300+k or more
jeebowhite
agreed, the engines these days have so much more life in them, thats why I tend to think 15k per year is acceptable :)
Mr Singh
with a petrol i say if the mileage is double the age then its high e.g. if a car is 5 years old it should have 50,000 miles on the clock but if its got 60,000+ then its high. with a diesel same as petrol BUT if its got quadruple the mileage e.g if its 5 years old it should have 100,000 miles on the clock... if that makes sence
