[font=comic sans ms, cursive]got a bit of a strange problem when it comes to selecting gears (mk1 tddi - mtx75 box), all was fine until a few days ago when i suddenly lost use of 2nd, 4th and reverse all at the same time, just wondering if anybody else has experienced anything like this as it seems strange that it happened so suddenly. not a massive problem for now (just make sure i don't need to reverse out of a parking space lol), but living deep in the welsh valleys it is a bit of a pain when it comes to hills , any suggestions would be very much appreciated as i really don't want to take it to a specialist unless i really have to [/font]


[font="comic sans ms, cursive"]seems to have gone really stiff as well when coming out of 5th, oil level is fine and the selector mechanism on top of the box doesn't seem that worn either[/font]

Could be worm or failing gear linkage , if in top gear and you boot it , does it feel like the clutch is slipping?

no slipping and still plenty of pull in every gear that works the clutch has only done about 15k, just hoping it's something simple

I'm guessing gearchange cables. Not as easy to change as you'd like and cost around £100 a pair.

Deffo check the gear change cables.... If the clutch was done 15k ago it could be one has simply moved in its fixing position or the locking tab had come out causing the cables to move and you to loose gears.
I take it there was no noises before the gears were lost ?

just had a look and the locking tab on the ends are fine but on one the piece where it attaches to the block looks to have come apart with a spring and what looks like a white collar loose causing the cable to move about.....

could this be the cause??????

Yes, does the gear lever go further back than normal? can you re-attach the "white collar"/ etc or has it sheared/ broken?

Yes, the movement from the gear lever isn't being transmitted properly to the other end.

all sorted , the collar had sheared so it's cable-tie'd into place on the bracket for now until i can get round to changing the cable's for new one's, thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated
