How does this protect your bonnet ?

It stops stone chips and is a plastic version of the old style vinyl bonnet bras that have been a big thing in America for years.
Dubious where they list them for a MK2 and show them on a MK2.5

They are (were?) popular with certain segments of the UK motoring community (along with lowered suspension, loud big bore exhausts, dump valves and burberry caps)

A bra should not be on a bonnet - the proper place for a bra is holding back swinging mammaries or on my bedroom floor!

Seriously it is a sensible idea on the right car and must help to protect the bonnet

As above i doubt its for a mk2 likely the 2.5 which some countries class as a mk2 given most stone chips hapoen on the bumper or higher up the bonnet all one of those is likely gonna do is pool water on the bonnet speeding up rusting or deflecting stones to the window my stone chips are all a lot further up than that

Very true.
When I got my car it had more pits on the front bumper than the face of a teenager on a Pepsi and pizza diet.
When my car was being fixed after that motorbike incident last year they nicely resprayed it for me.
Still looks a bit like orange peel but at least the paint is even.
