Hi Guys,

OK so pending my white smoke query, I wanted to open the oil cap and it seemed stuck to check for any mayonnaise like substance, but it was a little reluctant to move. I wanted to take the Engine cover off and so undid the 10mm nut and proceeded to take it off, but it seems a little bit caught on the lower right corner.

I have had a feel and cant feel an obvious catch or fixture... Anybody got any techniques I can apply?

Have you got any pics of the engine cover Jeebo? They are usually mounted on rubber bits so should just haul off.

Ball joint mounted on intercooler pipe elbow
Gripped to engine cover via plastic cap,
Just grip engine cover as close as possible to the ball joint and lift cover to pop it off,

Will give that a go at lunch me thinks on the last Focus I tried this and cracked it off (literally cracked it!) so didnt want to get too heavy handed if there was an appropriate method

The newer ford 1.6TDCi engine cover doesn't spread as far down on the front,
Just uses the two nuts and fuel filter ball joint.

If it breaks and you want somthing a little different,
Then the peugeot 1.6HDi engine cover is a direct fit

Not sure I fancy spreading Spawn of Frenchies all over my engine bay

Gave it a go, nice and easy but firmly held in place (best way I suppose!) Just put my hand under and spread my hands so the ball joint sat in between my fingers, gentle tug and done.

Had a look and saw that the injector / plug area looks a bit rusty but no obvious issues, will try post photos later.

Can we confirm were still talikg about removal of the engine cover ?

nah this point is referring to what I think is the injectors, I will be referring back to my thread on the "white smoke" issue. its slightly better suited to look at the contents of the engine than the removal of its cover :)
